Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G Review

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Intro
The Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G sits right in the middle of the Redmi's new lineup of five budget phones for 2025, and if you ask us, this one strikes the best balance between price and features.
At a price of £250 in the UK or 350 euro, this phone comes with a more powerful processor than the cheaper options, the same main camera as its more expensive sibling and it even has a bigger battery than them. And it has one hidden advantage that you may never spot (more in the design section).
There are only a few downsides, but do they matter in the grand scheme of things?

Redmi Note 14 Pro Design
Surprisingly light-weight

We mentioned that there is one advantage the Redmi Note 14 Pro has over all others in the series and it's time to reveal that: it's the weight!
While it's a 6.7-inch phone, the same size as the other Redmis, this one only weighs 180 grams, so nearly 10% lighter than some of the rest. For such a big phone that is light-weight and we love it.

With its rounded corners, the phone feels very comfortable to hold and it's quite thin too.
Redmi Note 13 Pro comes in a choice of three colors:
- Midnight Black
- Ocean Blue
- Aurora Purple
Redmi Note 14 Pro Unboxing

Here is what you can find in the box:
- Phone with pre-applied plastic screen protector
- 45W charging brick with USB-A output
- Charging cable (USB-A to USB-C)
- Silicone case
- SIM tool
- User manuals
A charger, a case and a pre-applied screen protector! That's quite the package for a budget phone and we are so glad to see so many freebies included in the box.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Display

The Redmi Note 13 Pro features a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED screen with 1080p resolution, which is good to see on a mid-range phone.
We have run our usual lab measurements to give you a better idea about the quality of this screen.
Display Measurements:
The display hits an impressive 1,036 nits of max brightness when tested on a full white page, which is great for outdoor use. The minimum brightness of 1.9 nits is decent, but we do wish the screen could get even dimmer for more comfortable use at night.
The fingerprint here is an optical one built inside the screen. It works fine, just remember that at night it will light up brighter to read your fingerprint, which some people find a bit disturbing.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Camera
The 200MP camera performs well at night

Three cameras on the back, but the macro one is not very helpful (Image by PhoneArena)
With a 200 MP main camera sensor, the Redmi Note 14 Pro has a lot more to offer than the non-Pro versions for camera quality.
Honestly, if you care about camera quality, don't even look at the non-Pro versions, which have some significant drawbacks.
You also get an 8MP ultra-wide camera of okay-ish quality. The third lens is for a 2 MP macro camera, but that is too low-res and there only for the count.
Redmi 14 Pro 4G Photo Samples
The jump to that 200 MP main camera is very noticeable, especially when you compare the sample photos to the cheaper, non-Pro Redmi models.
Photo quality is much improved compared to those models with a good amount of detail, very little artificial oversharpening and a quality of images you typically get with more expensive phones. Well done, Redmi!
Zoom quality is also quite good as you can see from the 5X zoom shots above.
It's nice that we get an ultra-wide camera here (the non-Pro versions have dropped it), but it's an 8 MP sensor, which is not enough resolution and that is not the only issue. You have lots of artificial sharpening and you can easily notice clipped highlights, so the dynamic range is not great with this lens.
The 2 MP macro camera is completely useless with the poor detail it captures, but if you really need macro functionality you have at least something. Honestly, we would have been just fine if Redmi skipped that one entirely, though.
Video Quality

The most significant flaw of this phone is without a doubt video quality. Just like its predecessor, the new Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G does NOT support 4K video recording. While we understand the limitations of this budget form factor, we still find this unacceptable.
So, what about 1080p video then? Well, if you can live with the drop of detail that comes with 1080p video compared to 4K video, then it's decent, but not anything more.
So, what about 1080p video then? Well, if you can live with the drop of detail that comes with 1080p video compared to 4K video, then it's decent, but not anything more.
Dynamic range is not exceptional as highlights are clipped. You can go to 15X maximum zoom level (digital zoom), but realistically you probably should limit yourself to around 5X before quality starts to degrade significantly. Still, there are advantages of having a 200 MP sensor and zoom quality was a bit better than we expected.
Video stabilization is also very good, so at least you have that.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Performance & Benchmarks
The Helio G100 chip is... not an upgrade at all?

Under the hood, you get the MediaTek Helio-G100 Ultra here coupled with a respectable 8 GB of RAM.
For daily tasks, this feels just fine, with a mostly smooth experience.
But you typically get some upgrade with every new phone and this chip is... not one. Compared to the MediaTek Helio G99-Ultra on the previous generation phone, this chip has not changed even a bit.
Performance Benchmarks:
You can definitely see that rivals have faster performance, which is not typical for Redmi.
Well, at least thanks to the optimized user interface, there is no lag or stutter, but gamers and power users would have benefitted from an upgrade.
However, that doesn't change that the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G is an excellent deal because you get a generous 256 GB storage on board. Hooray for that! We wish other phone makers had this much storage, but the competition has half that. You also have a microSD card for expandable storage, which is also very nice to see.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Software
With Android 14 on board, all Redmi phones are one year behind the latest Google software, which is definitely not great.
You do get the company's current Hyper OS software, a big upgrade over previous MIUI interfaces.
This UI is well optimized and runs smoothly, but it still has the same aggressive power saving features that mess with push notifications. In simple words, some apps will just refuse to deliver push notifications on time, which could be a big problem, if you rely on them.
Of course, there is no such issue on other phones like the Galaxy A series or the Nothing A family.
Xiaomi also only commits to two years of major OS updates, a big disappointment considering you now get six years of updates with the Samsung A series.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Battery
Big battery, frugal software
Especially with the frugal Hyper OS powering the show.
We run three in-house battery tests, so here are the results we got.
PhoneArena Battery Test Results:
The Redmi Note 14 Pro scores a very good 14 hours and a half on our web browsing test, but it really excels in video streaming with a score of more than 12 hours, which is very rare. In 3D gaming, however, we measured a mediocre score of around 8 hours.
What does this all mean in real life? We estimate that the Redmi Note 14 Pro will give you a bit more than 7 hours of screen time, which is one hour more than most phones, so that's great news.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Charging Speeds
Still, you have 45 W charging on the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G, which is still plenty fast.
Here are the actual charging speeds we measured:
While with the previous model, you could get a nearly 70% charge in just 30 minutes, this model only achieves 48% in the same time frame. A full charge now takes 1 hour and 10 minutes, compared to 51 minutes on the yesteryear Note 13 Pro.
There is no wireless charging support here.
Redmi Note 14 Pro Audio Quality and Haptics

With a bottom firing main speaker and a helper speaker located in the earpiece, you get stereo sound from this Redmi and the quality is decent, but not more than that. You get sufficient volume and we like the clarity in the mids, but the lows are mostly missing and there is a bit of harshness in the highs.
You do have a 3.5mm headphone jack, though, so that's a nice touch for those of you who still use wired earbuds.
Haptics here are improved compared to the non-Pro Redmi models and we find this very important for an enjoyable experience.
Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G Summary and Final Verdict

We have to say this once again: if you are looking for the best balance between budget and features, the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G is just that.
The camera on this phone is a big step up from the non-Pro version, you get excellent battery life and 256 GB of on-board storage (double what rivals offer). The compromise of not having 5G connectivity is probably not a big deal to most people, so this makes for a very compelling package.
This phone also has a couple of features we rarely see nowadays, such as microSD card support and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and all of this at a very reasonable £250 price. Needless to say, if you like Redmi's software, the pros far outweigh the cons for the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G.
