Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Review

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Intro
Redmi phones are typically known for being cheaper phones that offer great value for the money, and this year there are five new Redmi phones that are just that.
However, among them, you have one premium option with a £400 or 530 euro price that is much closer to typical mid rangers.
This is the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G, a mouthful of a name for the most advanced of Redmi's 2025 Note series.
With this phone you get many flagship features like a premium design, great haptics and most importantly, the best image quality in the series. Additionally, this is the only phone in the family that supports ultra-fast 120W charging and the charger is included in the box! So is this the mid-range phone to get in 2025?

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Design
In one word: premium

With curved sides and a choice of either vegan leather or glass, this phone feels every bit as premium as more expensive flagships.
A closer look at the detail around the camera also shows unprecedented attention to detail in the mid-range segment.
You also get IP68 water and dust protection, a premium feature, no doubt.
There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, though, while cheaper Redmi phones still keep that.

And here are the available Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G color options:
- Midnight Black
- Lavender Purple
- Frost Blue
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Unboxing

Here is what you can find in the box:
- Phone with pre-applied plastic screen protector
- 120W charging brick with USB-A output
- Charging cable (USB-A to USB-C)
- Silicone Case
- SIM tool
- User manuals
It's great to see a charger and a case in the box, and the pre-applied screen protector is also a really nice touch.

The 6.7-inch screen here is slightly curved, but thankfully you get that screen protector pre-applied (those might be hard to find otherwise).
We prefer a flat screen, but this one is not strongly curved so we don't mind it too much.
Display Measurements:
For biometrics, you have an in-screen fingerprint scanner, which we found to be quite zippy and accurate with readings, so no issues here.
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Camera
A main camera that impressed us

On our extensive PhoneArena Camera Score, the Redmi got 128 points total, with a great score for main camera photo quality, but it was behind rivals in zoom quality and selfie photos.
The video score is also slightly below the competition with a disappointing showing in ultra-wide video.
So what are the cameras on board here:
- 200 MP main shooter with f/1.65 aperture and OIS
- 8 MP ultra-wide camera, f/2.2
- 2 MP macro camera
The macro camera is obviously there just for decor: at 2MP it does not have enough detail and for most people it will be practically useless.
Photo Samples
The main camera, however, does a quite good job. The large sensor performs well both during the day and at night, and it's great to see clean, noise-free images with a good amount of detail.
It also does great with zoom, especially at the 2X and 4X levels, and only then the quality starts to drop noticeably.
The ultra-wide camera is clearly not in the same category as the main one, but it does a quite decent job and you can get a good shot out of it in low light too.
We are also quite happy with selfies taken with the front camera, which have good detail and pleasing colors.
Video Quality

This Redmi supports 4K video at 30 fps and 24 fps, but there is no 4K60 support.
Also, you can only use the main camera with 4K video, but not the ultrawide (that one maxes out at 1080p video).
The quality out of that main camera is good with plentiful detail and you have up to 30X digital zoom. Video stabilization is also pretty good, but you notice that with a faster pace you do get some jitter, so it's not quite flawless.
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Performance & Benchmarks
MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra inside and it's fast

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G jumps to a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, the same one as what is used in the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro.
This Dimensity 7200-Ultra chipset delivers very good performance for this price range. It is paired with 8GB of RAM, which also seems sufficient.
In daily use, the phone feels fast and smooth, and for more advanced tasks and gaming it is also quite capable.
Below are the test results for those who want to see the exact numbers.
Performance Benchmarks:
On the Geekbench test which focuses on CPU performance, the Redmi scores slightly below the Pixel 7, but not too far behind.
Unfortunately, we could not run a graphics benchmark because of incompatibility, but you should expect mid-range performance in the gaming department.
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Software
One downside with this phone is that it ships with the year-old Android 14 software, tweaked significantly with the Hyper OS custom interface.
We like the refinement and smooth performance of this interface, but we ought to mention that Hyper OS continues killing apps in the background and this messes with push notifications for many apps. Xiaomi's explains this with battery saving reasons, but we'd rather have timely notifications, thank you.
For software updates, it's unclear. Redmi promises four years of updates for some of its models and only two years for others, which is a lot less than what Samsung is giving users (six years).
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Battery
Below, we have run our battery tests to see the exact battery life numbers.
PhoneArena Battery Test Results:
The Redmi outclasess the Pixel 7 by a small margin on our YouTube video streaming test, but it ranks behind it on our lighter web browsing test. Overall, though, the battery life of the two is not too far apart in our measurements.
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Charging Speeds

However, when it comes to charging, you get this beefy 120W fast charger in the box and some truly insane charging speeds.
A full top up takes merely 25 minutes! Did we already mention the word "insane"?! And if you're in a pinch, you can get a nearly 70% top-up in 15 minutes. Truly game-changing.
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Audio Quality and Haptics
It was no surprise that this Redmi sounds the best among others in the series with a more balanced sound with slightly more bass and an overall clear sound.
Unfortunately, there is NO 3.5mm headphone jack here (the rest of the Redmi Note 13 models have it).
Haptics are nice and sharp, though, and absolutely feel close to the ones on flagship phones. Great!
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Summary and Final Verdict

So... what's the verdict on the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G?
This phone is often discounted, so it's definitely a great value offer. It doesn't have the fancy styling of the Nothing (3a) Pro, which shapes up as its most capable rival. But it has many advantages over the Nothing Phone or the other big name, which is the Galaxy A36 (5G). The super fast charging is very impressive and the craftsmanship has impressed us too. The camera quality is also on par, while not being much better. We also like that Xiaomi offers double the storage for the base model and having IP68 water and dust protection is great.
If you can live with the Hyper OS software, which can mess up push notifications for some apps, we think this is definitely among the best mid-range phones of 2025.
