Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Review

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Intro

Among the five new Redmi budget phones, the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G is among the premium options.

Priced at £300 in the UK or 450 euro, this phone is almost as expensive as a Pixel a series device, so it has to be good.

The big upgrade compared to cheaper Redmi phones is a more powerful MediaTek chip inside this phone and you get the perk of having 256 GB of storage in even the base model. Redmi also offers fast charging and a screen that gets extra bright for comfortable outdoor use. Is this the Redmi phone to buy in 2025?

Before we answer that, here are links to our reviews for the remaining the Redmi Note 14 phones:

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Specs

An impressive specs sheet for the price

Here is an overview of the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G specs:

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Design

Clean design and more ports and jacks than you'd expect

We love the vegan leather back plate of this Redmi phone. It has a soft touch and is a welcome change from glass phones, plus you get this geometric shape that gives the phone some character.

With rounded sides, this phone feels very comfortable to hold and it's not too heavy at 190 grams.

The cameras also look stylish in that single island, raised slightly above the back of the phone.

Overall, this feels like a flagship phone, the build quality is excellent.

You do, however, lose some features compared to last year's edition of the phone. You no longer have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the IR blaster is still there at the top.

It's also great to have IP68 certification here, which means full water and dust protection, a big upgrade from the "splash protection" on the last year's model.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G colors:
  • Midnight Black
  • Lavender Purple
  • Coral Green

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Unboxing

Here is what you can find in the box:
  • Phone with pre-applied plastic screen protector
  • 45W charging brick with USB-A output
  • Charging cable (USB-A to USB-C)
  • Silicone case
  • SIM tool
  • User manuals

Yes, you get a case, a screen protector, and a charger all in the box. We really wish more phone companies took notice and instead of taking away accessories, added these back.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Display

Just like all the other Redmis in the series, this phone also has a 6.7-inch OLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, however, upgrades you to 1220p resolution, up from 1080p on the cheaper models, so it's even sharper.

You also get the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for better protection against scratches and drops (the cheaper Redmi Note 14 models come with Gorilla Glass 5).

We also like the thin borders around the screen, which make this feel a lot like a flagship device.

Display Measurements:

At an all white screen (100% APL) we measured that the phone hits around 1,150 nits, which is on par with the previous version. It gets quite bright outdoors, so it's easy to see without squinting your eyes.

For biometrics you get an optical in-screen fingerprint reader, which works just fine, we've had no issues with it.

While you have three rear cameras on the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, only two of them are really useful and the third one is there mostly for decor.

The main 200 MP camera and the 8 MP ultra-wide one capture good quality images, but the 2 MP macro camera is the one that makes no sense having here as the detail on those macro shots is just bad.

Photo Samples

The 200 MP main camera does a very good job with a good amount of detail and the dynamic range is also well controlled. Colors are pleasing without being too saturated or dull.

You can go to 30X digital zoom, but we recommend sticking with the 4X preset as the quality clearly drops after that. Still, for a budget phone this is within expectations.

The ultra-wide camera captures lower resolution photos, but with good dynamic range and they overall look quite nice too. This ultra-wide camera is also a big upgrade over the non-5G Redmi Pro model which has poor dynamic range and detail.

Video Quality

Video Thumbnail

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G supports 4K video which is great to see considering that the cheaper phones in the lineup do not.

Video quality is quite decent. You get a fair amount of detail and pleasing colors, and video stabilization has also improved from the previous model so your footage does not appear shaky.

You can zoom up to 6X digitally, but the quality is not great at 6X zoom and we recommend sticking with 3X zoom when possible.

Unfortunately, you cannot record in 4K with the ultra-wide camera as that one is limited to 1080p recording only.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Performance & Benchmarks

On par with the Galaxy A54 5G and Motorola Edge 40

The MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra chip on the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G is not exactly an upgrade compared to last year's model, which had the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. In fact, benchmarks show that this newer chip is slightly slower in CPU performance.

For simple daily tasks, though, it all feels zippy and we did not see the phone stutter or lag, as the Redmi software is well optimized.

More intense tasks, however, definitely strain this processor and we were hoping to see at least some improvement this year, not a regression in performance.

You have two configurations to choose from — a base model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, or a second model with 12/512GB. If you have the spare cash, we definitely recommend going for the second model as the extra RAM and storage are worth the £50/50 euro premium.

There is no microSD card on this phone, so no expandable storage.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Software

Hyper OS is the software here, but it's running on top of Android 14, a year old version of the platform.

Considering Redmi's uninspiring software update track record, this is not great.

On the plus side, this software is well optimized and it runs very smoothly and provides plenty of options that you don't get in stock Android.

It has one issue, though. Because of its aggressive power management that Xiaomi says saves battery life, push notifications for some apps may get killed too! That can be a dealbreaker, so be warned about this issue. Phones by most other brands don't have that problem.

For software updates, you only get two years of major OS updates, which is quite disappointing compared to more than five years of support on other rivals.

With a 5,110 mAh battery, this Redmi phone beats rivals from other companies that typically have a 5,000 mAh cell. However, the 4G version of the phone comes with a 5,500 mAh battery and we wish we had that here too.

In real life, this phone can last about a day and a half easily, so we are happy with this battery life.

We run three in-house battery tests here at PhoneArena, so let's see the results.

This phone actually beat our expectations. It gets great scores on both our web browsing test, but also for YouTube video streaming where it got a superb score of more than 13 hours.

This results in a total rating of nearly 8 hours of screen time, which places this phone among the best battery life performers in 2025. Great job, Redmi!

Interestingly, this new Redmi charges slower than the previous model. The new version gets 45W charging speeds, while we had 67W charging on the Note 13 series.

This means you get 63% power back with a 30 minute top-up, while on the previous model you got nearly 75%. A full charge now takes 57 minutes, a bit slower than last year when it took 47 minutes.

There is no wireless charging support, in case you were wondering.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Audio Quality and Haptics

Audio quality here is decent, but not exceptional in any way.

The phone gets loud, but we were hoping for a bit more definition in the lower frequencies and there is almost none. It's also not the loudest phone around, so average scores all around.

One more thing: that 3.5 mm headphone jack is no longer present on this Redmi, while last year's model had it.

Haptic feedback is excellent on this phone and this is one of the best upgrades you get compared to the cheaper models. Good haptics make for a much more pleasing experience, so don't underestimate this.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G Summary and Final Verdict

As usual, you get plenty of value with Redmi phones and the Note 14 Pro 5G is no exception: the 256 GB of storage is double that of rivals, and you get a decent main camera, as well as a stylish phone with a pretty screen.

However, we feel that the software is still a big downside with how it messes with push notifications for some apps, and the ultra-wide camera is a bit disappointing.

However, if you can find this phone on sale (of which there are many), it becomes an even more enticing option and you should consider it.
