Intro
Google might be late to the foldable phone party, but we say better late than never. The Google Pixel Fold offers a completely different form factor than the popular Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 with a wider instead of a taller screen, but... are there other options with a design similar to the Pixel Fold?
Well, thanks for asking! Because we have just the perfect Google Pixel Fold rival: the lighter, smaller and also undeniably cute Oppo Find N2!
Both the Google Pixel Fold and the Oppo Find N2 open like a book, so once unfolded, you get a tablet-sized main screen, but then come the differences. The Oppo is not as big as the Pixel Fold and it weighs noticeably less, but the Pixel Fold is slimmer and arguably looks more elegant.
So... what other differences are there? And which one should you go for? Let's find out.
Google Pixel Fold vs Oppo Find N2 in a nutshell:
- Pixel Fold is first gen, Oppo is second gen
- Oppo has almost no crease
- Both have three main cameras
- Pixel has 5X zoom, while Oppo only has 2X
- Pixel has a bigger battery
- Oppo has much faster charging speeds
- Oppo is way more affordable
- Oppo is sold in only a handful of markets

Design and Display Quality
Do you prefer a larger or a smaller foldable phone?
Both the Pixel Fold and Oppo Find N2 are vertical folders that open like a book and they have a wider design and which results in a far more usable front screen.
We can dive deeper in tiny design differences, but really, picking between these two boils down to whether you prefer the bigger size of the Pixel Fold, or you'd rather have a more compact folding phone like the Oppo Find N2.
In numbers, the Pixel comes with a 7.6-inch main screen, while the Oppo has a 7.1-inch display. This difference is not small, but it is not too big either and both feel substantially larger than a regular non-folding phone.
Also, don't forget that 10-ounce weight of the Pixel Fold. You will notice it, especially if you plan on carrying the phone in your jeans pocket. The Find N2, on the other hand, proudly proclaims that it's the lightest foldable phone in its class with a weight of merely 8.36 ounces, less than an iPhone 14 Pro Max, however it is a thicker design.
You should know that the Pixel Fold comes with an official IPX8 water protection rating, something which is missing on the Oppo foldable.
So what about the screen quality? Is there a massive difference?
Of course, we have OLED screens on both, but one breakthrough with the Oppo is a far less noticeable crease thanks to the hinge used by the company.
Of course, we have OLED screens on both, but one breakthrough with the Oppo is a far less noticeable crease thanks to the hinge used by the company.
The Oppo gets brighter and we also noticed that the Pixel Fold has an extremely reflective screen, so the Oppo has the advantage of being easier on the eyes when used outdoors.
As for biometrics and security, both phones use a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button on the side.
Performance and Software

The Pixel Fold comes with Google's own Tensor G2 processor.
That chip is fine for a mid range phone or even a regular flagship, but... on a $1,800 flagship? Well, how do you explain having an $1,800 phone with the same chip as the $500 Pixel 7a?
The Oppo Find N2, on the other hand, uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is still faster in daily tasks, as well as for more complex situations like gaming.
This won't matter much for daily tasks, but you decide whether absolute performance is a top priority for you.
Performance Benchmarks:
We did notice the Pixel Fold overheating on a number of occasions, while the Oppo did not, so that's one important difference. When it gets hot, the Pixel Fold runs slower and you notice the choppy performance a lot.
Both phones do use 12GB of RAM and both have 256GB of storage in that base version, so at least in that we have parity.
Turning to software, we have again some differences. The Pixel Fold runs on a clean Android 13 version, while the Oppo foldable is powered by ColorOS based on top of Android 13, and this software skin might be a bit foreign to many people. Both phones have a dock for quick access to apps, both support split-screen multitasking, and we are yet to test these features in more detail.
You get three years of major Android OS software updates with the Pixel Fold.
Camera

Both the Pixel Fold and Oppo Find N2 come with three cameras on the back, and they also have selfie cameras in both the outer and inner displays.
You get a wide and an ultra-wide camera on both, but while the Oppo goes with a 2X zoom lens, the Pixel Fold uses a 5X periscope-style shooter.
Main Camera
You immediately notice the vibrant and saturated tones on the Oppo and the more toned down look from the Pixel Fold.
That's the main difference here, and it's all a matter of personal preference.
Detail is plentiful on both phones, so not much of a difference there.
At night, the Pixel Fold is more consistent as it nails the white balance well practically every time, while the Find N2 has bluish colors in the second shot here and on a few others we took.
There is not much noise on either one, so they do a generally good job with night shots.
Zoom Quality
One area where the Pixel Fold clearly pulls ahead is zoom quality. Thanks to its 5X zoom lens, it captures a lot more detail at longer zoom ranges, 5X, 10X and further.
It's no contest between these two.
The Oppo goes with a 2X zoom lens, but that lens has one key advantage: this is the most versatile focal length for portrait mode shots, and the Pixel absolutely fails our Portrait Mode tests. If you value great looking pictures of people, the Oppo is actually the more reasonable choice
Ultra-wide Camera
We see the color differences from the main camera only amplified when you look at the ultra-wide shots: the Oppo with its vibrant, lively colors, and the Pixel with the more realistic look.
In low light, the Pixel Fold pulls ahead. The ultra-wide camera on it captures a lot more light and does a better job, while images from the Find N2 are often too dark and not really usable.
Video Quality
Both support 4K video recording at up 60 frames per second, but the Pixel Fold has both the better quality and app experience.
The Pixel captures more pleasing colors, while the Find N2 often shoots bleak colors that don't look all that great. The Pixel is not perfect though as it has a slight jitter and you can actually see something similar on the Oppo.
In low light, issues amplify a bit on both phones as footage gets noisier on both.
Audio Quality and Haptics
Foldable phones have a reputation of having superior speakers than traditional phones, and most of the time that is because of the larger space.
And both these phones do well in terms of loudspeaker quality, but we do give the slight preference to the Pixel Fold which just sounds a bit boomier.
As for the haptics, both are nice for typing, but we noticed the Pixel Fold vibration motor is a bit on the weak side and if you rely only on it, you might want to be careful not to miss a call. At least, that's what happened to us on several occasions.
Battery Life and Charging
The Pixel Fold might have the bigger battery, but the Oppo charges so much faster
One of the biggest advantages of the Pixel Fold is that with the larger size, you also get a bigger battery. The Pixel Fold features a 4,821 mAh battery size, nearly 7% larger than the 4,520 mAh battery size on the Oppo Find N2.
We have only run our YouTube video streaming test on both these phones and the Oppo Find N2 has a big advantage. It lasted nearly 25% longer than the Pixel Fold, which is quite impressive.
Google phones have been notoriously slow at charging, and the Pixel Fold is definitely not an exception with 21W wired charging speed support.
The Oppo Find N2? It absolutely wipes the floor with its whopping 67W charging speeds. Now that's what we call fast!
The Oppo, however, does not support wireless charging, while the Pixel Fold does, even if it's at the slow 7.5W speeds it has.

Summary and Final Verdict
The Oppo Find N2 has long been one of our favorite foldable phones because of its lightweight and cute/compact form factor.
The Pixel Fold, however, is a great challenger. It might not be as small, but it's much slimmer and more elegant.
The advantage of the Pixel Fold lies in the larger screen, better camera performance and the day one software updates, while the Oppo stands out with its conveniently fast charging, light weight and smaller size.
We really wish the Oppo was available globally to make this comparison more fair, and as it is currently, the Pixel Fold is the more reasonable choice, but which one do YOU like better?
