I am a Sony fan for almost 5 years now. I have used Sony G502 for a couple of years and then used Sony Hazel J20i and Now I am using this Xperia Z1 Compact. I bought it as a deal for 350$ and initially I was very happy with the purchase.
I loved the camera(Only at Day light) as that's the main reason I bought this. It really feels nice to have a Small kinda phone.
After using it for about six months, phone tends to become to slow, over heated while charging, low battery life, late responses to touch and even getting struck at some apps.
Mostly phone gets over heated while using data(not for maps, just for messaging) on travelling and tends to discharge so quickly. I really hate when it gets discharge without even using it for navigation purpose.
I am a Xperia Fan, had most of them for everyday use, but this one is the best for me. I have this one the longest and i know why. It rocks at everything. one thing I dont like is the screen to body ratio.
I bought the phone for two reasons, the camera and the apparent waterproof capability. Unfortunately those seem to be the main things I have a problem with.
Camera is ok but freezes more often than not especially when needed, I have tried several things safe mode etc nothing seems to help, night shots are poor and I feel as though the camera quality has been over exaggerated to promote sales.
Waterproof after reading no end of forum messages and complaints it would seem a lot of people have had damage due to water, I also read the small print it is only water proof in fresh water so this is definitely not the phone to take to the beach.
If I could change this phone and get my money back I'd happily get my galaxy S3 back and buy a Go pro :-)
I decided to upgrade my 7 years old phone to a Z1 Compact. Everything went perfect until I plugged the headphone and tried to listen to music. I got really dissapointed because my 7 years old phone offers at least 1.5x higher sound level than my new Z1 Compact. I also tested my friends' Z1 Compacts and results are the same. Seriously, an update is needed to fix that low volume problem immediately so we, the Z1 Compact users won't be using our old phones or mp3 players as main music players. These kinds of problems don't suit the Sony quality.
For the last few years, i was a real Samsung Fanboy. Every Smartphone i owned up to now, was produced by them. At first, i didn`t want to change this fact, but i ha two problems: I wanted a phone with a screen size of 4,7 inches or smaller with good up to date hardware and it should be buil with high quality materials, like my former Samsung Wave I.
Only Sony could solve those problems for me, and now I am a very happy owner of a Xperia Z1 Compact.
All together, this phone is perfect, expect the problems with the camera (Sony, what did you do with this great Z1 camera???) and the cheap back-plate.
If you can live with those two shortcomings, there ist no better phone with small dimensions and a good price.
Got this phone for almost a week now and it's absolutely matched my expectations.Very fast and smooth, the design is terrific gets some fingerprints in the back but ok,the camera even if i don't use it so much it's great (i don't have tested it yet on low light),the speaker is clear and lowder than i expected from all the other reviews and last, the battery with the stamina mode it's a beast.I tottaly recomand this phone, last but not least the call quality is very good and having a 4G network is also a plus for this phone.I tottaly recommand this small beast of a phone
I didn't read any of the reviews from any sites before I paid my money for Z1 compact shortly after 4 hours when I knew that there was a phone like this in the market. What caught my eye immediately was the size of phone, as its name, compact. Tired of 5+ screens and plastic wrapped phone body, the seemingly metal and "glass" combination once again added up my interest to it. Battery has always been a problem for the several cell phones I had before. Now Z1 compact helped me out of daily charge which in stead the longest time it last almost 3 whole days without a single plugin. Water proof design also save quite some troubles for me since I go fishing quite often. It's a great phone wrapped up in a perfect size, at least for me.
Base OS system. You can feel omni balance design at the first touch. Display is symmetrical relative to the phone frame. Build quality really nice with metal frame and rigit.
Xperia interface is purely clear, simple, serious and fast. Xperia Z1 Compact has special hardware and software than other android phone. Result: It is really compact Z not mini :)
The phone fits just nice into my hand and I can type with one hand easily. Though it's a mini version, it retains the high specs of its original parent. It's sad that apps cannot be moved into SD card, makes me feel that the SD card compartment is redundant. The battery life is really long- lasting but gets heated up easily when gaming.
I always wanted to have a compact high-end waterproof phone, and the Z1 Compact fits the bill nicely. So far, I'm pretty happy with this phone. At the beginning I've had some problems, but most of them were solved with updates. I hope Sony with get the camera processing in line with the Z2, because it seems it does much better with the same camera. Anyway, if you want a compact phone that looks good and is waterproof, the Z1 compact is your only choice ;)
I've been a loyal Nokia user before switching to Android. I've always had an eye on Sony, I've found them more interesting and unique Android phones than Samsung, HTC, LG or Motorolla. And I didn't want a mammoth 5-incher, so decided to wait for something more hand friendly. Thankfully Sony came up with the beasty Xperia Z1 Compact. I've had it since its release in February and can confidently say it's the best phone I've had so far. Solid build, stylish design, simple and distinctive custom UI, top of the line specs, lightning fast performance, beautiful and bright display, loud and clear call quality, excellent camera. The 2300mAh battery is properly long (3-4 days with moderate use), but given the display's 720p resolution, it shouldn't be a surprise. My only gripe is that the audio output is average, could've been louder. Other than that, I recommend this phone to anyone looking for a sizeable alternative to an iPhone without compromising on specs.
1. Build quality: Though the phone feels premium and looks fine, it got several scratches on its back cover. When I checked later, it turned out that this back cover is not made of glass as Sony claimed in early its ads, but from some very scratch-prone plastic. Both sides of the phone are real fingerprint magnets.
2. Camera: Honestly, the Z1 Compact camera is the most painful disappointment. I snap 90% of my pictures indoors, in low-light conditions... and all I have now is grainy photos with the poorest details and worst resolution. You will not probably believe me if I tell you that my 3 year-old Nokia N8 takes much better photos than my 3-week old Z1 Compact. As for video recording, the Compact's camera is excellent, no matter what the recording environment is.
3. Screen flickering: This happened to me at least 10 times since I bought the phone. The screen will just start flickering for no reason and keep turning features like Airplane mode on and off. It won't stop until I reset the device with the red key.
4. Very low volume: The sounds on the Z1 Compact are simply not loud enough, either for ringtones and notifications or for music and video playback.
5. Unpromising software update: Like any other XPERIA owner, I was very excited when Sony announced the 4.4.2 update. However, I was more disappointed than ever when I read the comments here and there about the issues that this update has caused: Quick battery draining, wrong loudspeaker path, Micro SD issues etc...
So, to all of you people who are intending to buy this device: Take my advice and wait until Sony produces a second version with REAL glass covers and louder speakers. If it doesn't, you will at least have a more stable KitKat OS.
