This thing is trash, the battery is less than a day, the volume vibrate function when combined with the bevelled camera leads to the phone sliding of a hard surface when playing media. It’s to big for a regular pocket and will regularly fall out when entering or exiting a car or when sitting. The android system makes it impossible to delete certain bloat ware apps. Xperia updates are daily, and constant, they never end the phone is in state of perpetual update with each one prompting an annoying notification that cannot be turned off. Deleting pictures take forever as in its wisdom Sony places images in separate app dependent folders and subfolders, this mess of a system means deleting a pic requires you to locate it among a stack of obscurely named folders rather than just deleting in the album. Its slippery, this is hands down the most non ergonomic device I’ve ever had, slipped out of my hand first day leaving a scratch on the screen, has slipped out of my hand most days but I will say its got a tough frame and can withstand the blows. The torch isn’t a torch it’s a dim led light. Game enhancer cannot be turned off or uninstalled leaving a hideous icon hovering over every game that blocks controls, menus and the fun of most games. Camera and video software is very poor, the touch buttons don’t register, and the cameras quality is very poor every picture is very dark, probably the lack of a decent flash. 4G and wifi signals to the device are very poor no-mater the network provider.
This thing is absolute trash as a phone do not buy, if you do buy it comeback to this site in 3 months and tell me it’s a good phone I guarantee you won’t.
I like the overall design of the phone. The 21:9 ratio is something to get used to but Im loving the more slim design which fits in my hand really well. The cameras, although a little low in the megapixel department, is really good and the pro app give you a lot of control in the settings just like their alpha cameras. Pictures turn out better with the pro app than the regular camera app as well. I cant say much about the pro video app tho as I don’t take any video. The 4K screen is nice, but its not as vibrant as my Note 9. I get they want to give a more neutral look but just looks like poop compared to others. Im glad the headphone jack is still here and I could use my audiophile quality headphones with it, wished the jack is at the bottom of the phone but at least the phone has one. The software is mostly stock Android, which is a plus, there are no bloatware installed and only the essentials is installed. Updates are relatively quick and the phone gets frequent security patches.
Wireless charging sucks on the phone. For a modern phone its slow. Placement is really finicky and unless you have it perfectly aligned, the phone wont charge. And even then, the software would randomly turn off charging for no apparent reason. When you use the phone while wireless charging, it overheats VERY easily.
The fingerprint sensor has a mind of its own. It doesn’t work when you expected it to, and it works too well when you least expect it. Deliberate scans always fail, but the act of taking out or putting away the phone always leads to attempts or successful scans. This is most annoying to say the least.
Battery life seem to take a massive hit as well. Before I could go a full day with 1 charge, now it would be lucky if it survive half a day. I didnt expect the either the phone is draining the batter this fast, or the battery condition has deteriorated this much in this short amount of time.
Bluetooth connection is garbage on the phone. Connecting to Bluetooth speakers or headphones always leads to intermittent connection and basically unusable. It also requires frequent reboot of the Bluetooth for it to even connect. A little research reveals this seems to be a known issue for Sony. Aside from generic “fixes”, there aren’t any solutions for it.
