Not quite as smart as a smart-phone. phone seems to be just another touchscreen phone with a few add features.
GPS takes a while to connect. even though GPS will tell you where the place is you want to go, you still have to pay for a-b directions!!!
the Samsung Jet. I knew that it would never beat my smartphone in terms of functionality, but I didn't use most of those features anyway!
SO i bought this. I have no regrets.
Only real complaints:
>No Threaded SMS view
>No 3rd Party Apps (no apps store)
The Samsung jet has some of the most compelling specs in a mid-range phone I have ever seen. Yet, I disagree with Samsung, as it is NOT smarter than a smartphone. It has excellent display quality, which is marred by resistive technology. The 800mhz proccesor has no real use as you can't really do anything but this:
"Play some Java Games, and OH WAIT, New msg! *Multitask out of game* Hahahah, funny msg. *Resume Game* Good thing I have this 800mhz proccesor to play all of these low spec Java games which use NO real 3D graphics at all! And that Multitasking smoothness! No hitch shen reading a message and playing a game!"
There is no use for it. the OS pretty much garuntees that, and as for apps, nope."Samsung Apps" Doesn't even list the Jet under its drop-down menu of compatible phones. Time to search thru hundreds of blogs for maybe 3 new games!
This pretty much ensures that No one will want to switch from Android or iPhones to this phone. The lack of apps is TRULY dissapointing.
The phone can be recieved free with a 2-year contract on most carriers I believe, but the phone is relatively cheap anyway.
Reccomendations? Good phone for Movie Junkies, photo viewers and Photographers. Maybe even Web surfers, as with Opera Mini (Easily downloaded from the website and installed from SD card) the Web experience is truly amazing on the screen, mainly coz of the pixel density. Text usually appears very sharp, as do images. Only when you zoom in to an extreme level, do you see pixels.
jet is a great phone camera is awesome with blink detection ( which actually works ) and smile detection also the only small problem is that the flash is so bright that it can hide the face of the one who is taking the picture but that's only if u are in a bright place
i love the fact about the widget but the problem is that u can't costmize the widget as u want and in the maps i can't find my home country that's soooo stuipd
the 3D cubic is great but the help says u can activate more than 1 program at the same time in the cube but i don't know who really
the games really great but they are all trails and i hate that
jet is very easy to use and in short a great phone
When I first got the phone, the proximity sensor was malfunctioning, so I had the phone replaced....Anyway ... The phone looks good especially the blurry red back ... I like the interface of opening several widgets and moving them around with your finger... However, only a few additional widgets to download ... I hope they samsung would do something about this .. They have made a smart widget interface ... What's missing??... Some Widgets :(It has the highest speed processor among all mobile phones and I like this because it doesn't hang or freeze ...There are several games but sadly they are either silly or trials ... I don't think there are options in this phone that are not in smart phones ... but in the end it is not a smartphone by definition ... BUT I don't care :)A 5 MP camera was the main reason that this phone was my top choice and the smile shot works perfectly ... It's nice :DAnd there is the cool 'Mobile tracker' option which allows you to enter two numbers to be sent a message in case the phone was stolen and SIM card was changed (the message will include the number of the new SIM ;) All in all .... I would recommend this phone :)
i bought this mobile, thinking that for malta it will have and do all the things i bought it for!! i don't have the navigation, google doent work, i cant see you tube films!! what the hell?!!! i bought this for nothing!! pc studio doent update coz malta isnt listed! we are in the EU so whats up with SAMSUNG TECHNOLOGY? 1/2 of malta own Samsung Mobiles!! coz we think that they are the best, well there not! i have owned 6 samsung mobiles and this is the last! my husband has an Iphone and all his functions and updates are spot on!! i will never buy another samsung mobile, not even if they give it to me for free!!i just want to say that the camera is very good as long as you have a steady hand, the touch screen is a little slow, you have to buy the gamesThis is the last samsung i will ever buy!!
Samsung Jet is best phone..the camera is great, taken pictures are very realistic. The sound quality is the best for me, its very very clear and it feels like your in a concert ground. The AMOLED screen is very good, the true color is seen. About the design, it is the best, very very good design. Features are great, smart unlock, 3d motion ui, Smile and Blink Detection, many more.. Battery is great you can enjoy it for long. For me Samsung Jet is the best buy. A very great phone.
my first impression about samsung jet is this hadphone is really awesome. i'm so happy the time i get it. but after using it couple week i realize that the phone is so-so only. application to install very very limited. the firmware of hand phone so poor but the hardware is good. i think the software programmer for this samsung jet model is very lazy and not creative and interactive.
Wish I had of seen this site before I invested in this "smartness". Apple have put out 3 phone in 3 years (and basically thay are just changes to one model) and Samsung on most days will put out 3 new phones by lunchtime and they still aren't even close to the Apple phone. Some love first: Brilliant screen. Very good multimedia capabilities (beats the iphone easily). Touch screen can work really well. Music quality is pretty good (not ditching my mp3 for it though). Camera very good (flash is rubbish, or is that too many drinks before I use it). Battery life is pretty good. 4-5 days on medium use. Really nice shape, and feel, and size. Processor it's best available. Good expandability (SD Card). Navigation around it is pretty good and intuitive. Now the bad. Grab a coffee this could take a while.1st the Company. Samsung have put out a phone on every operating system know to man (Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile and their own one which the Jet uses). Are we going to get support for all of these on an ongoing basis. No. Android and Windows 6.5 will probably prevail. The support does NOT exist. Go to the Samsung UK website to the blogs about people crying for help.It is a glorious sunny Saturday in Sydney and rather than being at the beach I have spent the last 4 hours trying to connect my phone to the PC. There are 3 (or 4) PC Suite systems available from Samsung. This uses the "New PC Studio" which is version 1.3.1 which replaces the "PC Studio" version 3.2, not to be confused with version 5 which is older or version 7 which is older and a rebadged Symbian PC Studio. Confused. Na. Don't forget to get the Samsung USB Driver and install that before the New PC Studio running as Administrator in Windows Vista SP 2 mode (if you have windows 7). Apparently Windows 7 has just snuck up on Samsung. A windows 7 version will be out soon (this is months not days). I would guess 30+ blog sites before I found the answer and now my phone is connected. Yeh. Happy days. Don't know what I'll do with it now though.Oops can't update the operating system via any iteration of PC Studio, must take it to a Service Centre to get it flashed. Yes. YOU CAN NOT UPDATE THE OPERATING SYSTEM YOURSELF. And there is a new one available. This phone is not known on the Australian Samsung web site, so I don't think I'll bother going to a service centre. So I'm thing I have to risk bricking the phone and doing it myself. Bye Bye warranty. Great support.2nd the phone. Were do you start. No copy & paste. Micro USB cable, not the 30 odd mini USB cables I currently have. You can run some Java apps, but the screen is cut of at the bottom by navigation keys. Plus can't find anything remotely useful (oh Android why did I not go with you). Why can't is say "Oh your register WiFi access is available I'll use that. You've now left the house I'll switch to downloading over the phone system" Oh no. Manual change which is not straight forward. Let me go through some of the widgets: Profile, great can easily switch to silent or meeting etc, but takes half the screen. Can minimise it but as soon as you change screen it maximises again taking all the screen. Can't use that area of the screen to switch screens even when minimised. Find somewhere else on the screen. Weather, nice, but shows the update time and not date. Back to auto switching between WiFi and mobile problem, I have to do that to get an update. Not much use. Also shows the dates for the following days in mm.dd format. Not what we use downunder. The WiFi widget wont load on any screen. The service provider widget keeps appearing on all screen even though I keep removing it from all but one. The photo view widget. Would be great to double tap that and go to the full photo browser. Sorry. The computer says no. The favourites takes about 20 times of mashing the screen before it does something. The 'Other' widgets wont load on a screen. The Picasa one just take you to a web browser. Often the widgets don't even work even though the phone isn't lockedup.Navigation. Yer eventually got that working. Don't know why I bothered (it is free though). Try to map a route and says data needed and then just gives up. By the time you have actually gotten a lock onthe satelites you are were you were going anyway. Keeps zooming in and out and making me dizzy. Compass wont work no matter what I do.Google maps will only download over the phone system not WiFi. WiFi strength seems to be poor. Average ease of setting up (not the worst). All the options though. The silly shakie, tappie thing to change songs etc just doesn't seem to work. Haven't be able to get Gmail through the email section, only web browsing or java app (though I think this is Samsung Australia lacking). The Schedule (we the human beings would call them meetings and reminders) can only have 15 characters for the 'Schedule' title and location. Yes you can only have a meeting in places that have a very small address. From what I read it doesn't or at least is extremely difficult to syncronise with Outlook. The DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is suppose to be able to play media on similar compatible hardware (TVs, PCs, Blu Ray etc.), but only via the USB. My PS3 works over WiFi, the phone has WiFi, then why not. There is no SDK (software developer kit), so what we have is all we'll ever get..And my favourite, the Currency converter. You have to enter the exchange rates yourself. Brilliant. This is called a calculator not a currency converter. This is such a great looking phone, and I really like it as a piece of hardware. But it doesn't do anything. They have built a beautiful powerful Ferrari and crippled it with a one speed gearbox. What is the point of being able to multi app when there are no applications worth running on it.Samsung stop putting out a phone every day and fix the rubbish that we have forked out good money for. Your applications are rubbish, you can't connect it to a PC without a computer degree and you don't support your products or your customers.Phone is going back and I'll look for a phone that isn't so smart. "Smarter than a Smartphone". That is just insulting.
We, the Samsung loving folks who used our hard earned money in a time of financial crises to buy the Samsung Jet, kindly request that the good and caring people at Samsung respond in an urgent and public manner to our following concers:
1. A step by step guide on how to install route 66 and activate GPS. And we mean everything, from how to find the Navigation in the phone settings, clicking yes, restarting the phone, intalling route 66 and what to do after that. Everything because it is so difficult and we are not as smart as the genious good engineers at the wonderful company of Samsung.
2. How to play youtube videos. Include all relevant settings, from A to Z. Do not leave anything out, even the simplest thing.
3. For those who can play youtube videos, how to fix quality issues of playback
4. How to best install Java applications
5. Are you going to publish a new firmware? Are you going to make the new firmware S8000XEII2 official? Where can we download this from your page? What problem does it fix? What are the updates included?
6. A few months back you announced that you will open your platform to developers in order to develop applications for your proprietary OS. What happened? Where are these applications? What happened to smarter than a smartphone? You also said in private correspondance with myself and other users that Samsung plans to develop its own applications for the Jet. What happened. We want the smarter than a smartphone you promised us, and we want it 6 months ago.
7. With windows, symbian and now your own smartphone OS, Bada, have you forgotten the Jet and those who bought it?
****To dissatisfied Jet users: Please repost this in every phone related forum that exists and send it to all contact emails and forms of Samsung***
i bought this phone 2 days back and i am very happy with it..the display is awesome..AMOLED just rocks..u can easily tell the difference between AMOLED and TFT..it's just fantastic..the ad potrays this phone as fast..but it's not..it's just decent..and there are parts where it lags..especially when you are viewing the album covers in landscape mode..and when you are browsing photos in landscape mode..so i don't think it's smarter than a smartphone..WiFi works great..can't beat the iPhone or HTC HD2,but stillit does the job well..hardly had any difficulty using it..the camera is great too..but colours seem to 'reddish'..but i guess u can adjust it yourself..battery life is mediocre..of course it depends on how u use the phone..but in general, the battery life could be much better i feel..oh, this phone doesnt have a stylus but of course u can buy it spereately and attached it to the eyelet..so, imo..this phone is awesome!!if you are looking for n all-rounded multimedia phone, this is the phone to buy! :Dhope i helped..
i've had this phone for about a week now. the more i use it the more i love this phone! it has a VERY fast 800mhz processor. one of the fastest touch screens on the market. And a gorgeous AMOLED screen. having used nokia phones for many years the samsung is not quite as intuitive but once you learn it, it is a joy to use. my only complaint is the New PC Studio software, it's virtually useless. Samsung should look at Nokia's OVI software, it is far more useful.
I just bought the samsung jet couple of days ago after thinking about buying it for a while.
My main reason for buying it was because it just felt like good in my hand, had a 5MP camera, had a touchscreen and becasue of how slim it was compared to any other phone of its kind.
First of all i really like it. Its easy to use, no problems with touchscreen and everything feels intuitive.
After reading a few reviews i have to agree that yes its not a competitor for any of the top smartphones but i never bought it because the slogan said 'smarter than smartphone'.
As far as people comparing it to the iphone would say, it doesnt have threaded sms and lacks application etc etc but i wasnt wanting to shell out the money. plus the iphone has poor camera functionality (only 3MP which is pretty poor considering i used to have a sony ericson K900 with a better camera) When the day comes when apple make an iphone with a decent camera i will probably get one but for now i dont rate them. One of my friends has one and yes they are very smart but he pays £55 a month for it which i think it ridiculous! Being a college student i would not pay this much a month for a phone, and for now you cant buy it on PAYG. But moving on i am here to review the jet...
The internet browsing is pretty good although since there are only a few applications for websites you have to enter sites manually which is a bit of a drag but to be perfectly honest i dont use internet on a phone that often. Micro-
browsers to me aren't brilliant... A laptop is your best bet for surfing the web! But for sites like facebook if you are a regular user and watching videos etc the internet is generally good. Wi-fi is very good aswell.
Moving on there many great features on the jet. The camera has alot of features and is brilliant quality! If you have a lot of nights out like myself this is brialliant for caputuring all those memorbale events! Also the music player is good quality. (I dont really like the headphones which come with this phone as they have a short cable and dont stick in your ears very well) But again i didnt buy a phone to use it as a music player, its just good to be able to play songs from it when you are on the go.
Lastly i will just mention some other things about the phone. It has all the things you need if you are moderate-regular user of your phone. Its fun to use. I think once you go to touch you will never go back! The battery life is also very good. It has the tumbling dice app the iphone uses which i thought was funny and it has a bright flashlight. Also there is a dynamic canvas which lets you draw things on screen (would of been handy if stylis pen came with it though!) One thing which baffles me is the fact there is a camera on the front of the phone which cant really be used to take photos with. I think its used for the likes of webcam but i dont know how to use... if there even is a way to use it? Widgets are very cool and there is an app to download new ones. I just hope samsung make an update or something where you can download new applications! But as ive already said im not a big micro internet browser fan.
If you can get past the cons then you will be very happy with this phone!
well am using the mobile for past 1 month its good but touch screen was not as good as iphone but acc to prize its superb amoled rocks well we have to say it beats i phone but it dont hav os dose the iphone have.....but u know something i have been using a2dp sony erricson walkman series streaming blutooth for my sony 910i for past 6 month its nice but after i start using in this its terrible u know y wen connected to streamer blutooth it dosnt support 5.1 and sound quality is so bad so pls dont buy blutooth streamer for this phone its waste but if u hear through normal headset its good na it has 5.1 which has good sound quality
This phone is great...the design, speed...all of them...Camera is amazing in the night..its like SonyEricsson K850i and SonyEricsson C905.Sound quality is also very high..
The main disadvantage of this phone is the lack of applications including 3rd party applications and samsung developed applications. The only applications you have are those the phones comes with but you cannot download even 1 of the billion applications available out there. This cretainly makes it NOT a smartphone, let alone "smarther than a smartphone" as advertised by Samsung which is misleading. There are smartphones out there that have exactly the same features, and more, than the jet. I agree that this is a great phone for its price, but with no applications (whether you need them frequently or just once), it is probably the biggest miss by Samsung ever and a damn shame.if I was buying a 50 euro phone, yea, I could live without applications. But I am not paying 350 euro for a phone with no applications.Would you buy a PC or laptop in Year 2009 that does not allow you to download any applications or install software or new things? It would be absurd for a PC company even to consider making such PC (no matter the price). It is equally absurd what Samsung did here. They are moving backwards. Its like building a car that has everything except a gas tank. Whats the point?Samsung can only say that themselves WILL at some point in the next 100 years be developing applications for this phone. That tells me nothing. What, they will develop 5-10 applications and charge 100 bucks for each one when the Iphone has a billion applications for under a dollar? The iphone, which is probably the most incomplete phone ever created (missing a lot of the most basic of features-especially the first edition) rocked the industry because of its applications capabilities. I have never owned anything from Apple and I am not an iphone fan. BUT should the iphone be issued at a different smaller and more stylish design, included the couple of missing features (i.e. bluetooth, better video) and be priced reasonably, I dont think Nokia, Samsung or LG will sell another phone ever. Which makes you wonder, why apple does not take these extra and easy few steps and destroy everyone for ever. The only reason Samsung and LG are doing well in the touchscreen market is because NOKIA has been sitting on their butts. Once Nokia comes out with multiple touchscreen smartphones full of features in 2010, it is game over. Thus if you are thinking of buying this phone, just wait a few months and then make your decision
Unless im mistaking, but when you take photos, you can zoom in and out using the volume buttons. this counts as digital zoom, right?
About scrolling for music, its pretty easy when picked up. + you can use a widget to skip tracks etc.
Battary is good so far, ive been using my Jet for 48 hours now and the battary is at half way (using the web, google maps, youtube, games, music).
good phone, but im no phone expert. for £200 in england pay as you go and any network (which i used my old number) i cant really complain.
i just hope the battary has a long life :D
hope this review helps,
regards,
rob
I found out that we DO have digital zoom on the camera, just use the volume toggle to zoom in and out.and for using the camera light for flashlight, just click *#0*# then click on 7) Mega Cam.-and the 8) VGA Cam is really cool it's like a web cam, too bad you cant really use it.
to the guy who wrote the 3 part review. your blinded by the glamour and glitz. think about what was said in your review...no threaded sms... that sucks more than brittany spears! and makes the jet inferior to a smartphoneno digital zoom and it sports a 5mp camera!!! whats the point of having a high res picture if i cant zoom! <<also inferior to a smartphoneas far as the touchscreen sensitivity goes, i would hate if i barely touched the screen and it starts pressing buttons for me. thats why i cant use an iphone, a g1, or any other crap that sports a capacitance touchscreen, so i feel like maybe this capacitance resistance dealy may be a step in the right direction for samsung <<finally something superior to a smartphone.im glad you only have 1 gig of music on there but ive got 13 gigs on my fuze and if i couldnt scroll through alphabetically (and skip to sections by typing or pressing a letter) i probably would buy an ipod.<<<inferiorhaving to switch internet profiles manually... so crappy...so crappy, im really wondering where samsung gets off saying the jet is smarter than a smarthphone. in my opinion, its nowheres near as smart as a smartphone. and it never will be, if samsung gets thier act in gear, updates some of the software issues, this will be as good as say... an lg xenon oh but wait, it doesnt even have an actual keyboard!seriously though, not a bad phone it just pisses me off to see samsung call it smarter than a smartphone when it is obviously quite stupid.the ONE awesome thing i will say about this is the processor but thats kind of obvious.
Okay continuing my review (since there's a limit to how much i can write)
Camera:The Camera, is good, but i would be nice if we had a digital zoom option. The flash is pretty bright, and it would also be nice if we had an option to just keep the lights on as a flashlight (which i was able to do with most phones with flash), but the light only goes on for 1 second before the picture is taken. not long enough to act as a flashlight.Smarter than a Smartphone?:well it beats like alot of smartphones, (like the old ones and some of the new ones) the Multi-task funtion is great because the iphone or the G1 doesnt have it, which is kinda sad... and the 800mz processor is impressive too. altho i would like to know how much RAM it has, or does it have any? the overall performance was really good, except for some lags in viewing pictures, and web browsing (i would have to blame my service for that). There isnt any app store, but that isnt really much of a consern for me since there are plently of JAVA apps that can be installed. so i would have to say that it could be a little bit smarter than a smartphone. But im not a business person that needs all those financing or whatever options they use. But Hey, it beats having to pay for the smartphone service, which is what? 2-3 times the price of the normal data plan? Most of the Cons about this phone are mostly software problems, if they can fix it, this phone will be almost perfect.
Okay continuing my review (since there's a limit to how much i can write)
Touch Screen Sensitivity:The touch screen technology that the Jet uses is called R-Resistive which is supposed to combine the best of capacitive and resistive screens. But i have say that this claim is false. It is more sensitive when compared to all of the other resistive touchscreen, but when compared to a capasitive screen, but is not as sensitive. The last phone i had was HTC G1, which has a capasitive touch, when compared to jet, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most sensitive, the G1 gets a 10(since no pressure need to be applied), while the jet gets an 8.5(only a small amount of pressure needed) and other resistive screens like the samsung Behold, i give that one a 5 (since you need to apply a fairly large amount of pressure)Battery life:I'm very impressed with the battery live of this device. even after hours and hours of internet browsing, texting, listening to music, and watching videos, the battery life just barely touches half way. I'm guessing the power consumtion is greatly reduced with the AMOLED screen and not using 3G (since i live in the US)Internet Browser:I have to say, i like this browser alot since it has a flash player and the one-touch zoom option. i like the one-touch zoom option alot better than the multi touch zoom thing on the iphone. so you can zoom in and out of sites with just one hand, unlike the iphone. Since it's a resistive touchscreen, the option to use a stylus or your nails, to click on links is really good. when you try to click on small links on a capasitive screen, there are many times that i accidently clicked on wrong links by accident, since it's not much precision. The downside to this browers is that you have to manually chance the internet profile to Wi-Fi, or 3g/Edge, or viice versa. So if i want to use wi-fi, i have to go to settings, change the connection from edge to wifi, when im done, i have to go back to settings, change the connections back. it's such a pain, i just stay on edge eventho its alot slower.
you guys prob know most of the specs and everything, so i'll go into the details. and since i have alot to say i have to split this review up.
Music Player:
the music player is one of the best one i've used. it has like 12 differnt types of different type of sounds profiles to choose from. and while using a head phone with the 5.1ch digital surround sound, the music listening experience is amazing. okay here the downside to this music player, as amazing as it is, when your searching though all your tracks there isnt an option to type in and search for a specific songs. you also can't scroll down categorizing by the first letter (like you can with your contacts). the speed of which you scroll down the list is like 15songs per flick. so if you have like thousands of songs it would take forever to get to the Z. but fortunately you can search the song by categorizing through thier auther or album, or just put the music player on shuffle.
Messaging:
I've been spoiled with phones that has Threaded-SMS and the Samsung Jet DOES NOT have Threaded-SMS, so this transition was a bit hard for me, but since i'm not a heavy texter i think i can live. hopefully samsung realizes this and creates a firmware to fix this problem.
Screen:
all i can say about the AMOLED screen is WOW... the screen is just so bright crisp and clear! even when i set the brightness level to the lowest, the screen is still amazing, even in the sunlight.I ripped a dvd to mp4 to see if thier claim about the "dvd quality" is true, and i have to say that it most definatly is, and might be even better!, there was no lag or anything at all!
Samsung s8000 rox to da core. it has all da features dat a regular person needs. i am very happy wit dis phone.if any person has a confusion weather buying lg arena of jet, i recommend da jet. it has a btter camers than arena and the battery life is also better than arena.
I really enjoy the purchase I made. The screen is great, besides using it in direct sunlight. It is light and compact, but the clarity is amazing. The camera loads very quickly and takes amazing pictures. I do wish the phone came with a program to read Microsoft files for free. Also, there is a limit to the amount of texts that can be saved on the phone. In my opinion, there should be no limit with a 2GB internal memory, or there should be an option to save them to the memory card so that you do not have to constantly delete. Other than that, the media player and music player are nice. The internal memory of 2GB is great, and it is fully expandable to 16GB. I have an extra 8GB class 6 card, myself, and it is fast when transferring information and loading. It would be nice if there were more widgets, as well. Also, the calendar is very subpar. It definitely does not measure up to Smartphone as far as the calendar and memos go. Overall, it is a great phone. There are a few things that could have been better, but for the price and the battery life that comes along with it, you cannot beat this.
I've had my S8003 for about a week. The phone is very pocketable (not large and lightweight), has nice features built into the software, e.g. smart screen unlock, auto on alarm, many options for taking video and pictures, fast acting GPS lock. The hardware is excellent-fast cpu, good amount of ram to handle open applications and web browsing. The AMOLED has excellent screen resolution for sharp pictures and video viewing.
