Like others, I got in on the trade-in deal Samsung offered. I had picked up a Tab S5e on eBay that worked flawlessly though a little slow, but was looking for something larger to fit my audio mixing application. This S7+ is the perfect size. I got back what I paid for the S5e, so I effectively got to use that for free for a year.
Pros: First off is the screen. It is lovely. It's so captivating it can be hard to look away! And I'm not one to pay particular attention to screens, so this is really saying something. Another feature I wasn't sure if I'd even touch is the (included!) S-Pen. I thought I'd have to buy an expensive app to read and make notes on music scores. However, Xodo PDF viewer, even in its free version, offers this and works seamlessly with the S-pen. So that's another win. The rear camera's fairly amazing, though I admit I don't use it much. The front camera is much better than my phone's (LG V60...). The network speed is ridiculous, clocking in at 750MB for downloads on my 1GB connection. It works great with my USB C to USB A / HDMI adapter, so connecting it to a TV or outboard DAC is easy. If you're into high resolution audio, get Neutron player and an DAC and you won't want to put this tablet down!
Not having had a Samsung device (besides the S5e) since the Galaxy S4 last decade, I was expecting the UI to be full of bloat. It's not, though. There were a couple of notification I needed to get rid of but that was all set by the second or third day of ownership. Oh and Samsung's Smart Switch had me up and running in about an hour. This from someone who takes about two solid days of configuring new devices. If I had to sum it up quickly, everything is easy on this Tab!
Minor cons: The front camera ends up on the bottom with the way I have it set at my mixing console. I kinda need the charging port on the left. That's a really minor niggle, though. I bought the Samsung Bookcover with it, but ended up returning it as I felt it didn't protect the tablet very well. Instead I got a cheap Fintie that doesn't look so great, but has all the function I could want, and a place to securely store the S-Pen. Oh, that reminds me of a real negative: The S-Pen likes to be charged on the back near the camera. It comes up as disconnected or needing to be charged about every 1/4 times I use the Tab (daily). Again the way I have it oriented on my mixer, that makes it bulge out and therefore slightly unstable. Maybe I should try to flip the whole thing again!
Actual cons: Weight: It's heavy to the point of hurting your hand holding it to watch TV in bed. I also hate that Samsung didn't don it with a 3.5mm headphone jack. And they didn't include a USB to 3.5mm dongle. I've already lost the one I bought.
Anyway, I've been seriously impressed with this Tab, and have no regrets with the upgrade. It's an amazing device. I'd have to be a very pro-Apple person and be willing to part with a big wad of cash to want an iPad pro instead.
I got the 8GB RAM/256GB SSD Tab S7 Plus in Mystic Navy it was $356 from Samsung with a Tab S4 Trade-In I got off ebay for $175, they gave me $400 trade-in credit, so my total cost from Samsung for the Tab S7 Plus was $531. I added the book cover for $50 and an iclever bluetooth keyboard for $25. $606 total...
Screen is amazing. S-Pen is the best stylus on any platform. Super fast processor. Speakers are fantastic with lots of bass - loud and clear, crisp highs. VERY impressive. The S-pen and it's low latency is spectacular. The super-amoled screen at 120 mHz is hard to tie, let alone beat...
One of the GREATEST features of the Tab S7 Plus that no one talks about is the 'Second Screen' feature. It works absolutely flawlessly for me with Windows 10. Also, Super display a $10 app works great as well. The Tab S7 Plus has basically replaced my Wacom Cintinq as my main Photoshop editing device. It's higher resolution, wireless, lighter, portable, and the S-Pen might be even better...
Plus, the device is awesome all on its own... Literally blown away by how great it is!
The S-Pen is fantastic and FREE in the box. You don't need to add a paper-like screen protector ($40) in addition to the $130 you'll pay extra for the Apple Pencil...
I'm a 30+ year Professional Graphic Artist. When some say that there aren't Professional Visual Arts apps on android it's really incorrect, because I use them everyday. Autodesk Sketchbook, Photoshop, Concepts, are just a few of the apps available on the Google Play store... There are many more... Are there a few apps available on iPad that aren't on the Play store? Yes, of course, but a good carpenter never blames his tools, and with expertise and talent you can do anything and everything on android apps that you can do on iOS apps - NO DOUBT.
If you're already entrenched in the Apple 'eco-system'... Then pay the extra $500 to $1500... But guess what, the Tab S7 Plus supports HDR10+ and has a 120Hz refresh rate, so your covered.
I got the Samsung keyboard case for $129... Saw a lot of positive reviews on YouTube and was excited to get one... I was let down. Overrated... The pen flap and magnets are its only redeeming qualities... Sent it back. The trackpad for me was not great, and with the keyboard not being backlit was another strike against it... The third strike was the fit. The tablet is flush in some places and sticks out offering zero side protection. The magnets were fine, but I found the back panel slid around a bit too much. Plus, it's only in one color, which lame. I expected it to be much more and was very disappointed.
I ended up getting the Samsung Book Case in Mystic Navy (matches the device) and it's slim design and magnets fit and hold much better than the Keyboard Case. Maybe because it's way lighter. The panels feel nicer and the panels are thin metal covered by a much nicer PU...
