Best all-in-one I've ever owned. Stunning screen that is much crisper than the Bold or iPhone - awesome to use outside. Highly intuitive - mastered the commands after 10 minutes. Touchscreen is fast and accurate. At first the keyboard seemed small but after 1 day I can type as fast as could on my old BB. Menu is simple and very easy to use. Most importantly, I can easily use this with one hand. The advanced features blew me away - love the ability to fill in my address book by pulling info from Facebook, etc. Most importantly, unlike other smartphones, the phone quality is superb. This is a keeper!
This phone is a purse phone. It is way to small. the keypad is impossible if you have larger hands. your thumbs will rub against the sides and there is not enough room between the top row and the bottom of the screen portion. they really should have made it a profile keyboard. I believe i will wait for the Sprint Rhodium (Touch Pro 2).
This is truly a great phone!
However, much like the 1st Gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G (gahd I hate making those comparisons) there are still some kinks that need to be ironed out. Most notably battery performance is sub-par when certain applications are left running (in the background) or because the software provider (especially Microsoft's Hotmail) have written an application which causes the battery to drain even faster.
However, MOST of these poor battery performance issues will be resolved with future software updates that are already in the pipe, and will be delviered shortly by Palm's OTA update service (no need to download & sync with a computer! It's all in the cloud!).
In the meantime, people who are having trouble with poor battery performance, should try this guide: http://www.precentral.net/how-improve-battery-life-plus-battery-friendly-accessories It helped me immensly, and now my battery life has gone from only 4 hours moderate use, to 10 hours. Once the Updates are out, I expect it'll go up even further!
Great work Palm!!! The phone is awesome, however there is a trade off for running mutliple applications - battery life. I'm fine with it though. Ultimately the #1 reason for interest in this phone is the unobtrusive notifications. SOLD!!! I will say the Pre has e few other features that peaked my interest as well.
Palm Pre is a GREAT phone, but the battery life on this is horrible. This alone destroys any possibility of being an i-phone killer. After 6 hours of moderate use phone and text only, the battery was dead. Its a shame because as much as I dont want to return it, the phone is not practical.
Palm Pre
Please Note: Although the device does not have an external memory slot, the Palm Pre comes with 8GB of memory. In addition, for the individual that stated it cannot sync with corporate mail. It can; however, you may have to contact your IT Department for the proper settings for the mail to properly work. In addition, Palm Pre is not 4G; however, Sprint is in the process of developing and testing 4G is specified areas and is ahead of fellow carriers by almost 1 year.
What a phone, this is the best feeling phone I have ever had in my hand period!!!! Just naturally fits in the hand. Love the OS, its fast and have had no lockup issues. Hands down Palm has really done it this time, 5 stars A+. Go take a look at this phone and play with it a minute you know exactly what I am talking about. To all those Palm fans, you will LOVE this phone. I have been using palms for years since I favor them as a smart phone but this is the BEST palm to date!!!! Dont get caught up in some of these negative reviews, I question if they really owned the phone or not!! Take it from someone who has the phone in hand!!

i bought the pre right when it came out with another 60 people this phone is so responsive i love the keyboard since i switch from an iphone 3g but everything works great on the phone it can multi task really good and the 3 mp camera takes good pics even in the night and i love the gestures there really intuitive and fun to use plus the Internet is so fast! it loads the same as my laptop and great call quality good reception plus the app catalog with 15 apps and growing cant wait plus the wireless charging is so cool and it syncs with i tunes also its really smooth and has all the features you want and you can even put your music as ring tones I LOVE MY PALM PRE plus it feels so good in your hand its so small ..defently a good upgrade from my iphone 3g
Like all phones there are always things that would be more useful. If you can find a phone and it has everything that everyone wants everyone would have it, but such a phone doesn't exhist. So with that in mind the Palm Pre I feel is an amazing phone.
If you are into tech at all and want a phone that can do a lot of amazing things this is the phone to get.
I also feel bad for anyone who has had a poor experience with this phone, my experience has been spectacular.
I also have no real problems with the keypad. I probably have about 10 times FEWER errors than I thought I would have had just by seeing the size of it.
One con I might have is the battery life. Yesterday it might have been because it hadn't been on a full 100% overnight charge, but I felt that it drained in a few hours. This was even with the brightness all the way down but I was trying to push it and do a lot at once. Like browse the web, load the GPS, and play pandora all at once which I'm sure would drain any battery quickly.
Palm Pro, iPhone, HTC Touch Pro...all phones I opened the box, entered the company server info and...bingo! Works perfectly!
Palm Pre-cool phone, great hardware...opened box, turned on...still all great...entered company email info-nope!
Here's the deal, I have spent all day on Saturday and now first thing Sunday morning trying to get this to work - it has to do with a ssl or certificates...Palm has "escalated" this to a level-2 tech support team. The unit will NOT sync with your company email unless the certificates are current...no idea?!?!? My company isn't going to jump through hoops to get my phone to work-they will just say use what works. Palm really blew this launch-a monumental screw up that will haunt them until they close the doors-HOW CAN THIS BE OVERLOOKED!?!?!
Other sites have huge lists of posts where people have already returned the units...without the sync to company email, contacts and calendar...you might as well find an old star-tac!
Palm told me they have a "team" working on this...watch for an "upcoming future update" ...ok-let me tell my boss that I will keep in touch on the road in an upcoming future date...
This is really bad.
Other than that-it appears to be a great phone!
((reminds me of the old line: "...other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, did you like the play??"))
I purchased the Pre on launch day. From the get-go, its been an excellent device overall. This thing does what its supposed to do, work. It just works. Every brand new product will go through "teething" problems. All new phones do, especially if they have a new OS. Whiners and people who complain about unecessary crap expect way too much from a 1.0 device. For crying out loud, its the first of its kind. The Pre also shows how powerful the Sprint network truly is. Calls are clear, and data flows at light speed. Its great how this phone handles multitasking, very clever. It is very easy to use. I've used different operating systems on cell phones in the past, and this by far is my favorite. So being that its the very first phone of its kind, it needs to have a fair and equal chance. You have a full 30 days to use it, take advantage of all that time to put it through its paces. As usal, everyone's experience will be different because we have different opinions, and no product is perfect. If we didn't have different opinions, there wouldn't be so many great products.
After getting this phone at launch today i am very pleased and this is a great phone. I recently just dropped my iphone to get this phone! It was a great chose and i am very happy!
Palm and Sprint suck. I cant get service in my house. Touch screen is glitchy as hell. When i called customer service no one could help me. The store doesnt have one for me to exchange. I ported from att. I shoukld have upgraded to the 8900 or the Samsung Jack. It's like they took the HTC Touch and put poopoo Palm software and a clustered key board. Ihit 3 buttons each time i try to hit one! i am going back to AT&T ASAP!!!
Do not go to sprint its a TRAP!!!
VZW and other carriers should abandon any plans to go with this phone once sprints exclusivity runs up. . .
