My very first cell phone

Phone owned for more than a year

A long time ago... in this very same galaxy ...

NOKIA 2270

In the year 2004 I had just begun my senior year of school. Cell phones were roughly at the same stage as the Gameboy was in the late 80s early 90s ... monochrome screens and basic operation. But the technology was new and hip and we loved it!

I can't believe 8 years ago is when I got my very first cell phone. My parents got it for me as an emergency phone after providing me my second car, a 99 ZX2 with better gas mileage than my previous 66 Ford Fairlane, and as such began driving more and more. It had a retractable antenna that I would fidget with in class and would sometimes gnaw on it when boredom set in. The backlight turned the screen from green and black to white and black (like a Gameboy Light). For the time the call quality was disconcernable from talking on a landline, but then again it was late 2004 so I didn't have smartphones to compare it to.

It was built like a freaking brick. Out of all my phones over nearly a decade this one has remained intact and still operates. Having stayed in my memory box for over 5 years turned off it still fires up as if nothing ever happened. If it was a car it'd be an older model Honda.

It lacks the "modern necessities" such as multimedia, camera, web browsing, etc ... but who cares? I'm not gonna negatively review a 1965 Ford Mustang for having terrible gas mileage or lacking power windows, locks, SYNC, Audiophile stereo system, etc.

I might be a little biased because I have fond memories with this phone, and other reviews may pick it apart piece by piece, but this was my first phone. It was basic and did what I needed it to do.

This is the epitome of retro!
