I have had the phone for six months and have replacd it twice already. Now the screen is white, which must be a common thing with rivals because I saw that in an earlier post. I dont understand how those bastards at verizon sell you such a piece of shit, stay away from this phone at all costs I just purchased the LG shine, i hope to have better luck.
About a week after I got this phone it had problems sending texts. Would come up saying Sending Failed, here's the funny part, the person would sometimes get that message. Then other times it would say Sent Successfully and the person WOULDN'T get the message, figure that one out! So then it started taking about 5-10 minutes just to start up, after it started it continued doing the Texting thing then it started freezing up and shutting off randomly. So I finally took it back to the dealer (Koodo) And they sent it to the factory where they updated the software. When I got it back another girl was trying to send in the same phone for the same problems and when he gave me my phone I saw that there were countless other Motorola Rivals in the bucket as well that had been repaired or going to be repaired. I know people with the same phone and they've had it replaced 3 or 4 times. DO NOT BUY A MOTOROLA RIVAL!!!!!! My question is, would it hurt for the sales representative to give their customer a heads up when they're buying a phone? I mean after all I am going to be stuck with this piece of cheap plastic for the next 3 years. I can't depend on it to work for me and with my lifestyle full of recreation and farming, I'd like to have a phone I can depend on. Motorola has officially lost my respect. Next time you make a phone to compete with the big boys, make one that works more than 60% of the time.
I don't suggest this phone to anyone. When I first purchased it from the store it had problems with the keys so I had to immediately return it.About 4 months after that I heard something rattling in the back, I took the back off so i could look where the battery was and it completely snapped in half.I had a hard time replacing it even though I hadnt really done anything.Verizon gave me a hard time but finally gave in and sent me another one. This one broke in half less than a month after I sent back the other broken one.I loved it at first but now its a nightmare.I kind of just want my enV2 back.
I just got this phone on August 22, 2009. I didnt have problems with it until just a couple days ago. The screen would go kind of dark but i still could see it a little bit. Today after school, the screen went completely back. I can text or anything because i cant see the screen. The only way i can make phone calls is if i can go to my contacts list and type in their name and pray that its the right person. This phone sucks. I thought i was the only one having problems with it, but i guess not. I wouldnt recomend this phone.
Purchased this phone in Aug 09 and immediately had problems with it freezing up. Took back to dealer(Telus) and they said to take the battery out and put it back it when this happens. Tried that. Worked a few times, but kept freezing up more often, especially when trying to send a text. Went back to Telus and they said the problem is the bluetooth, which they disabled. Okay for a few days and then started locking up again. Went back to Telus. They said it had to be sent off for repairs - probably just needs to be reprogrammed. They said this would definitely fix the problem and they never have to send these back a second time for repair. So guess what - it came back, worked for a few days and then froze up completely. I asked for them to just give me a new phone and they said they only do replacements in the first thirty days- which totally annoyed me becuase we already had been back to them with problems in the first thirty days.
So now they say my only option is for Telus to keep returning it for repairs until they finally fix whatever is wrong with it. In the mean time I signed up for a plan with this phone and am now stuck with a crappy loaner which doesn't have a texting keypad.
Ugh!
Do not take your chances on this phone.
i have had this phone for two months. within two weeks i had it have a "software meltdown" and had it sent in. thy said it was fixed and it took 5 WEEKS to get it back. i finally got it back about a week and a half ago, and it has had another meltdown. it refuses to send text messages or to even let me write them.as well it freezes constantly, deletes messages on it's own and is in general a boring phone.when i called the people who sold me the phone, they sent me to my service provider, who sent me to Motorola who sent me back to sold me the phone! Now i am getting my phone completely replaced, and i am still unhappy because they have provided me with a "loaner phone" that is one of those 0$ P.O.S. phone, which is what i had before the stupid Rival!quite honestly i would NEVER recommend this phone to a single friend of mine or to even my worst enemy!
ok this phone is a piece of ***!! i've had it since august o9. and now the screen is completely white and i cnt see anything. i cn still make phone calls sometimes and sometimes i cn answer them..and sometimes i cnt. i wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone...
I'm on my second rival, and it's just pissing me off. There is always something messing up on it. My first one the screen went completely out, just went completely black and i couldn't do anything with it. Now, I have my second phone and it freezes up, lags, and my f-ing screen is now WHITE! I just wish i could chuck this phone at one of the manufacturers.
I switched from the motorola crzr to the Rival. I disliked the crzr so much that I swore I wouldn't get a motorola phone but the Rival proved me wrong so far. I love the size, it's much smaller than most other phones out today which is good because I need a pocket sized phone. The resolution is amazing, I transfered my pictures over and they are 10 times clearer. I love the semi touch screen although I wish you could text on it. Another great thing about this phone is the way the symbols turn green. I have heard about a lot of people braking there Rivals, but I figure if you're gentle enough, the phone shouldn't break.
The phone, itself, and the idea behind is great, but I've had a few problems with mine. I've had it for 28 days and am now recieving a new one. About two weeks in, I started having issues with the sounds. If someone would call, my phone would ring, but I couldn't hear anything on the other end, and while that was going on, my keypad buttons wouldn't make sounds either. Those issues seemed to resolve themselves after a couple days, but another two weeks later, the screen just blanked out. I used the calculator, exited out of it, and my screen had a green tent to it. After I closed the keyboard, the normal colors came back, then shortly there after, it was all white. I turned it off, took the battery out, but it back in, and turned it back on, then my screen was black. When I slid the keyboard in and out, the screen would light up white for a split second as if there was a short in it or something. I've gone to Verizon and they're sending me a new phone (I'd rather have something different after all that but they won't do it), but the fact that I'll be going 5 days without a phone with no reimbursement is a bit of an inconvenience. One more thing... about half of the time, when I slid the keyboard in or out, it punched the 6 then called it by itself. I slid it every way I could think of, and it still did it. That was quite aggravating. I'm hoping the second phone works out better, and if it does, then I'll write a better review once it has proven itself. Until then, I'm highly unsatisfied. What can I say? Alltel spoiled me.
i have had this phone for a couple months now. all my friends love it even i do and my parents to. i would recamend this phone to kids under 18 years. it is good for texting and i love the keyboard i had the blitz that had the keyboard and loved it but then i got the lg dare and i didnt like texting on it i had that phone for less than 30 days. now i have this phone and the only con is that when im texting the phone will think i touch one of the touch screen things even though i was on the other side of the keyboard
overall i love this phone! my only drawbacks are that the touch screen is sensitive, there aren't many fun apps, and that the menu button and the up, down, left, and right buttons sometimes (but rarely) freeze. i love the color on mine purple and black) and there are many ringtones to choose from. i would recommend this phone for kids who don't mind not having everything a phone can offer (ex the iphone) because other adults and picky kids may need different qualities that this phone does not have. i would recommend that you use the pulse or underwater back rounds if you have the purple phone. they both match it well.
I got this phone in June and absolutely LOVED it. However, I eventually traded it in for the EnV3 because of the camera & flash on the EnV3. I still miss the Rival, but it used to turn off occasionally and it would lose the factory-installed quick text, plus any I added - weird! I had the white one, beautiful, and enjoyed using the partial-touch screen and loved the qwerty keyboard feel and colors...if Samsung would fix the things wrong with it, upgrade the camera and add a flash, enlarge the screen a bit and give it a higher resolution, I'd definitely buy this next time!! I don't understand why phones are released before they're tested thoroughly and all defects fixed! That's what gives them a bad rep...
I switched from the LG chocolate 2 to this phone and at first i loved it but now I just want my old phone back. The front buttons are hard to push but not that hard. The touch screen buttons work when they want too wich really makes me mad. This phones camera is horrible. the only good thing about this phone is the keyboard and the colors other than that its junk. Im sticking with LG next time.
it keeps turning on and off randomly plus the keys are hard to use. also its only partial touch screen. the thing that bugs me the most is how it turns off and on randomly it does its own thing wich is really annoying
This phone was simply amazing when i first got it, but its not all that. Theres nuthing funn to do on it, like the dare had a drawling padd and i really liked that. The touch screan is too sensitive and it turns off randomlyy. but i think the best part of it is the keyboredd, witch isnt a good thing, id do anything for my old *LG Dare. and im getting it back soon. THis phone maylook awsom but its really not. But on the plus side it has a neat design and awsome colors.:)
If you're thinking about buying a Motorola Rival check out http://www.youtube.com/user/MsMobileMaster, these videos were really helpful to me!!!
this phone is AMAZING!!!! it works great and has awesome colors! it completly blows away the other new phones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This phone was great for texting and playing around with, but I had a hard time using it as a phone. The bluetooth would loose connection and when not using a bluetooth, and making a call, my cheek would touch the dial pad and change settings and press digits - Unless I locked it first.
i absolutely love this phone. It definately has a learning curve with the keyboard b/c even with the EnV, i had the option of using the front keyboard, which i usually did. I love how you can change the menu options and it comes with some cute wall paper. I wish the charger plug was the same from my old motorolas since i have a few left over. i just wish it came in pink...
I must say I have been skeptical of Motorola these past few years, and I even had the Motorola Krave (the clear flip touch screen phone) recently, but it was defective and I took it back and swore I'd stay away from Motorola. But after experiencing Verizon's attrocity they call the Samsung Trance (which should be taken off the shelf), I went with a fairly priced well reviewed Motorola phone, the RIVAL. And I am beyond impressed! The clarity of the calls are the BEST I have experienced in my cell phone life! The semi-touch screen is very responsive, the Qwerty keyboard is perfectly sized and spaced, it makes texting unbelievable easy! It comes with a ton of ringtones, and quite entertaining ones! The fact that it offers different ways to view your text messages, either in conversation form or by time, really impresses me. The camera is very clear and the zoom while taking pictures and while viewing pictures is the best I have used! One of my favorite features is the "function" key that once pressed changes the red backlit letters into green backlit numbers and symbols! I am shocked that I am so pleased with a Motorola phone. WAY TO GO MOTO!
It's been 4 days since I bought this phone and I'm still discovering neat things about it! In answer to Anonymous's mention of emoticons not being able to be sent to or received by non-Verizon customers, this is normal and has been that way as far as I know; HOWEVER, you can go to your Quick Text screen and add smiles :), frowns, winks, etc. It's easy. Enjoy!
This phone works great all-around; Calls are clear, customization is present, texting on the QUERTY is nice, and the look is amazing. But what it has done could have been made better. The emoticons could have had an option to show the the emotions in a smile, such as :) instead of an image, for texts made to non-verizon customers. Also, texting could have been made for the touch screen as well, which i don't know why it was not since it works to well for what it does.
I upgraded to this phone from the orginal ENV. I love the size and the slide out keyboard. Call quality seems to be good and I feel that texts send much faster than my old phone did. I love how custom this phone is. You can completely change the main menus to have the icons that you want and you can choose their placements. I'm very happy with this phone so far.
Well, I got the Alias 2 a few weeks ago, and I really liked it. But two weeks later, I saw this phone had come out, and I liked it sooo much better, so I exchanged it.
Personally, I think it was a good switch. I got the purple one, and it's much nicer looking than the Alias 2 is. The touch screen is good, and the re-adjusting screen is very quick to change from vertical to landscape. The keyboard is easy to use, and had tons of shortcut keys. I text constantly, so this is the perfect for me. I just totally love this phone so far. Definately a good buy!
