Amazing :]

So pretty much i'll say this phone freaking rocks! ive had it for about three months (us cellular) and it works fine, i love everything about it! i will say the keys were hard to get used to because of the raised triangle ness but its easier now. I have been wondering, why did us cellular discontinue such a great phone? maybe the bad economy? it's seriously bugging me. if anyone has an answer, please let me know. And thank god us cellular FINALLY discontinued the lg scoop or whatever you want to call it, i went through, count it, 12 LG SCOOPS! oh, and that was in less then a year.

Phone owned for

I got this phone 2 days after Christmas, it was a good phone and i was pleased. I really like the keyboard because I am a major texter. Well about 3 months after i had the phone, it would just start shutting off by itself. Sometimes it would come back on, and sometimes it wouldnt, but my battery would have full life. Also, if you go to "phonebook" and click "contact list" and you get to the contact you would like, on the left side it says "Send MSG", well that started to cut out. I took it to alltel, and they reupdated the software. I took it home, and it stop shutting off, and the "Send msg" stopped cutting out for awhile, then it started back. So I went back to alltel, and told them that it was happinging again, they sent me a new one in the mail. I got it, and took it back up there with my old one, and let me get all my stuff, not even 10 minutes from walking out of the door, the "SEND MSG" was cutting out AGAIN! it hasnt started to shut off yet. But this is the 2nd one of these phones i have had, within 3 months. and mainly the only things i do not like is the shutting off, and word cutting off. but overall i like the phone.

Mine did the same thing as "so so" I have had mine for just a week and now when I make a call and its not on speakerphone the person I am talking to can't hear me and now suddenly the screen is blank. I'm taking it to Alltel as soon as I can! But I did actually really like using it before this stuff happened.

Love it!

Phone owned for

Love this little phone.   In fact, love it so much I just upgraded 5 lines to this model.  Keeps my tweens and teens happy and makes Mom feel cool!  :-)  Sound quality during calls is awesome (can actually keep my car stereo turned up and still hear clearly!) and much better signal that the other phones we upgraded from (LG rhythm, scoop, Moto rockr and V3).  If you haven't had a QWERTY, it takes some getting used to the keys, but nothing major.  All of our memory cards went right in and the music/pics were picked right up by the phone with no reformatting of the card.  Bluetoothing of files is pretty easy (contacts, pics, audio, etc.).  Ringer volume is LOUD!!!!  So far, we've not had any problems out of this little gadget.  Love the pics.  Truly more than I anticipated.  I work for an Alltel/Verizon competitor....and I wish I had this phone to offer to my customers that are looking for a PDA style phone without the PDA feature/plan.  Added the 9.99 per line per month unlimited data feature to all of the lines that have the HINT on them and my kids are loving that.  Sure beats a PDA/smartphone/BB plan that is going to run you about $30 bucks a month.  Sure, it's the "cell phone" version of the internet, but can get to what is really important (weather, myspace, yahoo, news headlines, etc.)  Only wish I can come up with at this point is a different color that the red/black being offered.  I would recommend this phone especially to all of those parents that have kids that NEED a blackberry.  If you didn't know better....you'd think it was something way more than what it is!  BTW, it does have the announce feature that will tell you who is calling so you don't have to look everytime your phone rings.  Also has ringer ID so you can set different ringtones for different people.  Drawback...messages just have 1 alert from what I've found so far.  My razr had the option to do different alerts for different people on the messaging just like the ringer ID.  As with any brand new model that hits the market...you may find the selection of apps a little on the light side, but from experience, that does improve rather quickly.  Yes, I have had it power itself off once or twice, but I expect that with a new phone that is only a few days "old" as far as use goes.  When you first get a phone programmed if the "software" gets "confused" or needs updated, it will power cycle to pull the updates in.  Very easy to use even for those who haven't had a phone with a full keyboard.  It's a wonderful, welcome addition to the Alltel lineup.   Nothing boring about this phone.  Now...it's just a matter of not grabbing the wrong phone when leaving the house because 4 of the 5 that I bought are all residing in the same house!  :-)

Love it :)

I have been checking out this phone for about a month now. Everyday I would look at it and search on it to learn as much about it as I could. I played with it a little before I bought it was well. I love it. It's a fantastic little phone. It's very easy to use, and it looks great. The battery life is wonderful as well.
I haven't used the MP3 player yet, but hopefully I will soon.

how to add mp3 music to ur phone and review

Phone owned for

I like this phone except I dont like how small the buttons are but I am getting used to it. I have only had it for about 2 weeks. And for the person that wanted to know how to add songs onto your phone....it is simple I figured it out myself by reading the little booklet that came in the box.  What u do is plug the black cord into the back of your computer and into your phone.  Then I simply pulled up my Morpheus (or u can use Napster, Limewire...etc.) Then u go into the start menu on your computer and go to My Computer...then click on Removable Disk (F).  then click on my music. Then went to Morpheus or u can go to Windows media player and drag and drop the music file into the (F)my music folder and it is automatically added onto your phone.  Well thats how i did  it. And my phone was also turning off and on and i figured out why it was doing that...it was cuz i had downloaded a corrupt file a bad music file from the internet and it was messin up so i had to go and delete that file from my memory card.  Then it started working again

Hint shuts itself off

Phone owned for

I like pretty much everything about this phone EXCEPT one important thing - it shuts itself off for no reason - batter is fully charged & keys are locked.  I took back my first Hint after 3 weeks and got another because of this.  Now after about 2 weeks this one is also shutting itself off.  It shuts itself off while not being used or moved, sitting on my desk.  It's like the battery disconnects.  It does not play the shutdown music.  When I go to use it, it is off..  I will be taking this one back, too, if it happens again, and get a different kind of phone.

Hint

Phone owned for

I did love this phone when i first got it a week ago.  The keys were a little small but i got used to it.  I loved the screen and the overall design of the phone.  The day after i got it it turned off in my pocket.  I thought mayb i pressed a button so I turned it back on and locked the keys.  It turned off again.  It did that three times in all it really wasnt a problem.  Today I let the phone charge and when i went back to get it it was flashing the M for motorola.  I tried to turned it on but it would not turn on.  The I took the battery out and let it sit for a few minutes before trying again.  Nothing just that flashing M.  They told me to bring it to an Alltel Store.  The customer service rep told me that because I had a prepaid that they shouldnt have even activated the phone becuase it was a smartphone and that wasnt compatible. I did research on this phone before I got it and I found out that it wasnt a smartphone, and i bought if from alltel as a prepaid phone.  I looked again because i figured this guy worked there maybe I was wrong.  I wasnt I looked again and i found mutliple sites that said this is not a smartphone.

I Love this phone!

Phone owned for

I got this phone yesterday, and love it already! It has a full QWERTY keyboard, easy for texting. The Calls are great, I love the big screen, and how it smoothly slides.. You can also buy a miniature chip for the phone ( 2 gig or 4 gig) and hook it up into a USB... (that it comes with). and download songs, videos, and pics right onto the phone! It's so neat! At first, I thought the phone was too thick.. but it's actually very comfortable to hold..I DEFINITELY RECCOMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO LIKES TEXTING AND SLIDER PHONES!

Best Phone I have Owned

Phone owned for

I have owned almost every phone Alltel provides: Blackberry Curve, Blackberry Pearl, LG Glimmer, Scoop, Hue, Razor V3M...the list goes on & on....I am a cellphone nut - YOU GET ALL THE PERKS THAT A SMARTPHONE CAN DO WITHOUT THE SMARTCHOICE PLAN....but you need to make sure you get the unlimited data minutes plan which is about an extra $10 a month!  I am not an IMPORTANT  BUSINESS person, so the smartphone package- was not really something that I needed as a normal individual.(and could not justify paying that high price since I have 3 phones on my plan)..I do not get lots of emails but I like to be able to check them randomly from my phone...which I can do with the HINT!  I have a computer @ home so I do not need FULL access to the internet but I am able to get onto the web with the HINT & do some things that I like when I am stalling time when I am away from home.
You can check your email from the Home Screen, you can get onto the web, onto your Myspace account ;) - You can watch Alltel TV-but you do have to get a subscription to it, which is almost a good as watching real television.  So much better than the previous phones I have owned....the XM Radio is great  if you like music on the go... it has navigation from the Home Screen & Instant Message....you can add a memory card...photo quality is great!!!!   Speakerphone,,,bluetooth or you can use a corded headset - - I use both!I have read that the software is slow but I do not find that to be a problem.  I think most people do need to understand that first it is a cell phone & second it does all the other things we love!  I did ask Alltel Rep if they had heard that it was slow & they had not heard of a problem but if there was one they would surely come out with an update once it had been on the market a while....not a problem for me!!!!   I LOVE IT!If you want to put it in your pocket you can lock the keyboard - I read on another site someone complaining it dialed while in his pocket & caused him charges - well.............if you take the time to READ your owners manual it tells you how to lock the phone to prevent this from happening!!!I personally cannot find any fault with this phone for me...but I can see where someone with big fingers MIGHT could have a problem with the keyboard....the keys are not flat they are kinda raised like a triangle???  I do not have any problems with it though....I must admit - I could not wait a month for my contract to come up for upgrade, I purchased @ full retail price....I had to have it & I am so glad that I did!!!!!!!

Phone owned for

Got this phone as a christmas gift after talking about it since Thanksgiving when it was released.
It's the best cell phone I've owned in comparison to a cheap prepaid phone and my old Razr. Really vibrant big screen, great call quality, very durable all around.
The only real annoyance is the slow screen menu transitions. When you choose a main screen icon your home screen is meant to fade out and into the menu of whatever application you chose. But it freezes half of the time : / It's not horribly bothersome but scary in class when trying to text fast and secretly, you have to wait for it to get there.
Another improvement they could make would be a choice of different menu interface themes and colors. The red is a little too dark for my taste.
I really like the keboard button backlights, much like glow in the dark. It's much more subtle and still easy to see.
Camera quality is really great, hold button on top is verrry handy, as well as the volume button on side.
Speakerphone sound is amazing, haven't had a chance to put any music on it, but judging by my recently uploaded ringtones the headphone sound quality is great.
Threaded messages is an awesome feature, helps to remind you of what the heck you were talking about when somebody responds to a message 3 hours later. Plus when your storage starts filling up you can choose to delete whole conversations instead of weeding through the whole inbox.
No included USB cable, but no need if your computer has bluetooth capabilities, which is extremely easy to use with this phone.
Battery life is good for day long usage, but I suggest charging every night while you sleep, or it'll fade fast.
I've gotten lots of compliments and odd looks :) I love this phone.

Gr8 4now

Phone owned for

So far so good with the Hint. I used to have a LG Scoop, like so many others, and i was dissappointed with the durability of the phone, with this one i'm actually impressed, motorola has always had a very good design concept w/ the phones they put out, but the QWERTY keyboad has never really made an appearance on thier non-smart phones. But from camera2call quality the phone is gr8, the only annoyance is the wide narrow green/red/center keys, but hey, nothing is quite perfect

AWESOME!!!!

Phone owned for

I saw the New Years sign for Alltel for the phone sale. Went online and in store and always kept going back to the Hint. I got it, and I am totally loving it!!!!! I was surprised, b/c I always have used LG, which I realized today, lol. I've just always loved the LG models. I was going mainly between this and the Scoop but this phone, to me, just surpassed the Scoop. I love it so far and dont' think I will change my mind! Great phone....go get it!

Phone owned for

there were 3 phones that I was looking at when I decided to get this, I was switching out my LG scoop, which I liked OK the sliding sideways querty keyboard on my scoop really annoyed me so i was pleased with the Hints keyboard.  I also needed a phone that had a great signal - my scoop had no signal ever.. while my SO's phone would have a full bar..in the same room.
I looked at this phone first and thought, no, too expensive for me, but I kept coming back around to this one, what finally sold it for me was the camera lol, I use my cell to take my kids snap shots so having a camera that took good photos was a plus, I took several shots of my daughter and sister and they are beautiful - sold.
I decided withing 2 hours of taking this home that I LOVE this phone. Its great. I usually stick with LG but I am really glad I went with this. I get a great signal (very important) as I live in a really rural area and with my lg scoop I had to stand outside in the middle of my driveway to get one tiny bar lol. - not fun in this freezing weather.
I found texting to be much easier on the run with 2 kids in tow than with the scoop, which I found awkward when I was holding my 3 year olds hand and trying to text my husband to tell him where we were. The Motorola hint is easy to use one handed.
The odd shape of this has grown on me and i get  lots of compliments. Love the display and all the little extras that come with this.

disapointing

Phone owned for

I bought this phone today & so far I can say that it's not "texter friendly".  I previously had a LG Scoop & that was MUCH easier than this one.  I'm hoping once I figure it out, it will get easier but at this time, I will say it's going back to Alltel within my 15 day window of returning.

A Nice, Full Review For You! (Part 2)

Phone owned for

The first thing I must say is that the software speed was dissapointing. I'm not sure why they put an OS with so many visual transitions on a simple phone like this, as most of the actions - even typing tended to lag enough to where it becomes bothersome during daily use. The software itself though is pretty nice and intuitive with various shortcuts on both the hardware and software. Call quality was better than my home phone. I heard very, very minor hissing, and the clarity was unbelievable. My friend stated that yes - the calls sound better than my home phone becuase of the various interferences I get on a daily but even without those, he said it was just excellent. Alltel's network can sometimes be a little spacey only ever so often, thus it presents nothing but a minor incovenience on occasion. The applications easily expandible, but with the included IM client, XM radio support, and Email I didn't feel the need The best phone I've owned to date, the Motorola Hint QA30 sets the bar for the new non-smart qwerty phones that are becoming all the rage. Going from various prepaid phones, to a RAZR V3a and now this, I'm extremely happy with my decision to buy this, even though I'm missing out on the G1 I wanted. Everything turned out better than expected, and I can certainly say that Motorola is in the phone business for a reason. I really hope this review helped you in your research!

A Nice, Full Review For You! (Part 1)

Phone owned for

For those of you who have been wanting to buy this phone, but could not find a review online, I got this phone recently feeling a little weary, but my doubts quickly vanished once I spent some time with the phone. hopefully this will help you in your decision-

Design and Hardware
Based more on opinion, I really thought the phone looked odd at first glance, but the square design grew on me (just as my 3rd Gen Nano did), and I could never be happier about it. The keyboard is very tactile, and I'm sure that in time, it won't be that hard to touch-type by feel. My only complaints about the keyboard are that the backlight is a sort of off-white, kind of blue color that kind of looks dirty out of the box, and that the button layout for symbols is a little odd, but overall these problems are minor compared to its ease of use and sturdy feeling. The top navigation controls were also slightly odd as the main 4-way pad was a little wide and the soft keys were very tiny. A welcome addition was the keypad lock button on the top of the phone next to the awesome 3.5mm headphone Jack. The slider functionality is very sturdy in addition to the overall feel of the phone. The MicroSDHC slot is located underneath the battery cover, but is thankfully not underneath the battery, so switching it while keeping the phone on is not a problem.
Features
The Moto hint has a wide variety of features that I felt were of excellent value for only $99 w/a two year contract. Starting with the Screen, everything looked very beautiful; colors were vibrant and the backlight was sufficiently bright. After a set increment, both the screen and the keyboard backlight nicely fade out, rather than just shut off. The 2.0 megapixel camera took excellent bright, and vibrant pictures in good lighting, but turned pretty grainy in dim lighting. The GPS was very fast in locating my position on the included Alltel- labeled Telenav application. The 1GB Micro SD Card I put in seems to work just fine, and my Shure SE110 headphones sounded very good when plugged into the phone, as there was little difference between the phone's audio and any of the iPods i've owned. Bluetooth calling sounded good on my $10 Jabra, but I reget to tell you that I have yet to own a stereo bluetooth headset so I'm not sure how that sounds. The Alltel coverage in my area is very nice, as EVDO seemed fast enough - I haven't used the browser yet either unfortunately. Anything I'm forgetting?
