I have had the lg chocolate 2 for about 4 months an this my second one because i drop my other chocolate in water but the second one is olways locking up on me when i watch videos that i recored. but its ok i havent had any other promblems with it.
I had the original chocolate right before the second gen came out and had switched it out 3 or 4 times for locking problems and problems with the mic. I then was able to get the second chocolate and had almost the exact same problems except it would completly shut off the signal every night for about 2 hours and I went through 6 of those. I hate the chocolate and my husband has even had to change his out twice because it was hard-locking while he was doing stuff.
My Dad found a Chocolate in the ditch in my front yard but the battery was dead so I borrowed my neighbors charger and got it charged up I liked what I saw but it is a Verizon and I had Verizon a few years back and they screwed me on some money so needless to say I wont be using that phone but it is a very nice phone, it texts really good and if someone sends you a text message and there is a song in the background you can download that song as your ringtone and I really like that feature. I recommend this phone highly to anyone who has music in their life or if they just really like their music!!!!!
I went to Verizon, switching over from T-Mobile, to get the LG Chocolate I VX-8500. When I got there, they said it had been discontinued even though it was still on display, so I was talked into buying the Samsung u620, I told them I wanted the Chocolate, so they said that all they had was the all-new Chocolate II VX-8550, and it was better than the VX-8500 it replaced. I said OK and got it in Dark Blue for $149.99. It is OK, but in July of 2007, the screen broke and I got a new Chocolate II for $50.00, same color and all. I like this phone, but it is prone to scratching, and when I move the charger plug to a different outlet, I have to plug the smaller end back into the phone after unplugging it to charge it again. I am getting an early upgrade next month, but this phones even OK until May 2009, my annual 2-year upgrade.
I have had this phone since September 2007. It seemed exciting at first, but now I am sorta tired of it. The music player is great, and even for a cheap speaker, the sound is surprisingly outstanding. The keypad font is easy to read. But, I've had some problems with it since then, here they are:
-March 2008: Phone intermittingly shutt off, software update 3.0 installed.
-July 4, 2008: Cracked screen, sent back to LG, new phone for $50.00, contacts/pictures transferred
-August 23, 2008: Won't charge sometimes, charger sent back to LG, free new Home charger
I want an upgrade. This phone is OK, but if you don't mind maintenence, get this phone. If you hate maintenence, buy it.
my mom has this phone and i do use itsometimes
i like the menu
i like textingon it.. it feels cool lol :]]
butt its tooo sensitive..
like the top part
idk. the colors are olk,.. i personally liek the dark blue and black ones..
pretty good phone i guess.
I've had this phone for 11 1/2 months now and I really want a new phone. At first I absolutely loved it and I couldn't get my hands off it, now its just boring. I wish this phone had more features. The material that the phone is made out of is very glossy and gets fingerprints on it easily. Also gets dented and scratched easily. I love the design and the touch keypad though. The wheel is ok, i hate when it makes that scratching noise. The internet and instant messaging looks weird and is hard to use. Text messaging is OK but takes a long time to write a long text message, i prefer a qwerty keyboard. i havent seen or used the chocolate 3 yet but just by looking at a picture i can tell its not gonna be a top seller.
I just wish verizon had 6 month plans, phones get boring after a while.
I got my chocolate, and was very happy at first but overall i noticed several disapiontments-
>pieces fell off
>my screen contently frooze
>disapionted by some of the features that i thought were going to be amazing.
>charger sucked horribly.
However,my friend had the phone and hers never had problems at all, I tried it out and it seemed to be much more better then mine. Sorry, but I'm not going to recomend it, I'm probly going to buy the Dare now. I think that phone seems to be a better chioce but it is really pricey. So, if you can't get the Dare get this but if you can get the Dare get that
I had the old chocolate and it broke so many times that verizon was nice enough to switch it with the new chocolate. The new one isnt as bad but it still isnt worth the money. It works wonderful for about a month then you start having problems. I am in a verizon store about every week or two. I am a teenager so i understand that I can be kind of ruff with phones but I have never had any problems with phones until now.
I really like the way that this phone looks, when i got it, it had only been out for about a day or two so there were no reviews of it yet, so i kinda bought it just for looks.
Pros:
good design
great sound quality
pretty good camera
probably the best phone for music on verizon
Cons:
scratches VERY VERY easy
sometimes the touch sensitive buttons start acting weired on me.
Over all a great phone, but i have had a few problems with it, it was just shutting off randomly by itslef but i took it into the verizon store and they fixed it for free. And now sometimes when i answer a call it just hang up by itslef after 1 second. Besides that im happy with it , it is much better that my old phone ( a Motorola v276 ), but looking back i kinda wish i would have gotten the enV instead, but im still happy with this.
I've had this phone for a while and its pretty good for its worth. Since I am not an adult I dont know how much this was with a new 2 year agreement because we didnt send our rebates in. All in all this a good phone. Theres only like 3 problems with it. Whenever i buy a new phone case for it or clip, when i put it in there and put it on the side of my pocket the sensitives buttons come on. I tried putting it in facing the back part and the buttons didnt come on. I felt like that was a problem. Also whenever you want to watch a video, if u click on a video before all the other videos load the screen goes out kinda and you can watch it but you cant exit it out and if you close the phone, you have to wait like 10-15 seconds before it goes back to the menu. And the other problem is the battery. Well maybe its not a problem for some people but i text and send alot of pictures and talk on it alot.Well duh im a teen but whatever. Its not really a complaint about it since we just use it and pop it on the charger every night. All and all this is a good phone. The camera is good for it being 1.3 megapixels. The call quality was good in some cases. The vibrate gets your attentions and so does the ringtones that i have. WOW they are loud. Well if you really want this phone you should get it, if you dont then your not really missing out. OH and the music player is nice! I'd suggest getting headphones for it because it kinda does get loud and i can hear it while im cleaning the kitchen and its all the way upstairs.
I didn't think too much about the Chocolate VX8500 when it came out. Since I needed a new phone I checked out the new Chocolate VX8550 and wow. I really love it. Yes, it is a fingerprint magnet but that is not a concern for me. I signed another 2yr contract and got it for free, which is a big plus. The only issue for me is that you can't reorder the songs in the music player. I love the new UI and should enjoy this phone for the next 2yrs.
I love this phone, the camera technology is awesome for a 1.3 mp phone. I would not recommend this phone for those who are rough on their phones, because if you drop it a couple of times the screen will get scratched. I have not had that problem. The music quality is outstanding, with 12 different music settings like "pop, rock..etc.." so you can listen to your music with better sound settings. The screen quality is outstanding. The bluetooth stereo capability works well. Some may complain that it smudges easily, but I am a female who has noticed that any phone smudges easily if you wear makeup. The fingerprints dont stand out too much on my black chocolate. I also love the fact that you can customize the screen so that it does not have the time and all of that clogging your background pic. All you have to do is scroll the wheel if you have the clipboard settings on, and it tells you the time. The alarm alerts, missed call alerts, etc do not stick out like a sore thumb. When talking on it, I have had to make sure that I hold the phone away from my cheek or else it would press a lot of buttons. That was my only learning curve when I had purchased it. The ring tone volume is also very loud. I am very impressed.
I have had this phone for awhile, actually im on my 3rd phone already, it was definately not worth the money... I have had to replace it twice already and am def. going to get a new DIFFERENT phone. I heard from the beginning chocolates were bad, but i had to give the new one its chance. And it disappointed me... It gets scratched easily, the "touch-sensitive" buttons dont seem to be very sensitive, i can never understand people im talking to and every once in awhile i get a very loud echo when im talking. Also, the main reason it keeps getting replaced, my screen goes black when its not supposed to. I slide it open and it will either be completely scrambled or just black and i have to close it and wait until it feels like fixing. It is very annoying. The first one didnt have that problem, but it did shut off by itself at random times... This phone has just been a complete pain and i am more than willing to give it up, there is no way i will continue replacing this phone, it is in no way worth it.
Hi,
Okay, so I bought the VX8550 when it first released, and I hate to be "that guy", but... This phone needs work. Problem #1. With the screen on the exterior of the phone, it goes without saying that gets pretty scratched up over time. Problem #2. The touch sensative buttons are losing their sensativity, and half the time don't even work. Problem #3. Although, you might think you look cool while using the scroll wheel... once in a while it tends to do nothing at all. Problem #4. Despite improvements from the VX8500, the slider still becomes wobbley and tends to slide all the way off...eventually. Of course these weren't issues when I first bought the phone, but the durability of the new chocolate is "below average"... at best.
Sorry LG.
i have a question, i am thinking about buying the new chocolate but i really want the new one in pink, are they going to make a pink one?
I have this exact phone in blue, even though it does scratch really easily, its great. I got this phone after 6 replacements of the previous chocolate, [8850] whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THE OLD CHOCOLATE, even though its like 50 dollars now, always go for new! After my many replacements, this phone has been improved in many ways, the slider is alot tighter so it doesnt fly off [that was one of my problems]. I have had this phone for 2 days, but my friend has always had this phone, the DAY it came out, its great! this is a phone thats styleish, hip and cute. get it!
This baby is been fun and since we did had one of the original chocolates, this replacement of the original is waaay better by far.. Highly recommended.
I work for verizon and I love the 8550, i have had it for a few months and have not had one problem. it is way way better than the 8500 of course, not bashing that one, but it just had a few problems with the sensitivity and battery life. Now that the send and end buttons are actually on the keypad makes it way better and instead of the touch sensitive now its actual a turn wheel..much better. the clear and speaker button are awesome and when you hit the clear button it actually vibrates to let you know you touched it. i love the phone and i recommed it to anyone who wants it.
I've had this phone for a couple months and I really love it, just about everything about it. The only problems I have with it, are sometimes the clear button doesn't respond the first time I touch it. Can be pretty annoying, but I figure its a lot faster than pressing a real button. My other problem is the lack of a flash, I really miss my flash. But Signal strength isn't that bad, as good as my vx8300. The scroll wheel is just amazing, I couldn't imagine another phone without it! I think the pros really out weigh the cons on this phone, and for only 100 bucks you can't beat it.
Overall, a snazzy, stylish little phone. Nice features. Problems: BAD problems with dropped signals for those of us who live out in the boonies and/or are on the road a lot. Also bad: the touch-sensitive face can start moving you along to other screens when you don't really want to go, eg, when you're talking to someone on the phone and your cheek bumps the phone accidentally, next thing you know you've chosen options you didn't even know existed.
Overall, a pretty toy, but I need a tool. Wish I had kept my old phone with better reception.
Just bought the LG VX8500 a week and a half ago. Overall I like the phone. Great feature set. However I do have some problems. Battery life is not as advertised. 15 days on standby?1? Yeah right. Brand new phone battery and i'm lucky if i get 4-5 days with maybe 5 texts and 3 short(5 min or less) calls.
My other big issue is signal strength. I was just upgrading from a moto E815 phone. With my moto, I could get almost full EVDO bars. With the LG, I'm lucky if i get 1(out of four) bars in the 1X signal. To be fair it still makes the calls but I don't have a home phone. I use my cell as my main/only phone and need it to be dialed in at all times while home. The lack in signal strength is a deal breaker.
I will probably be returning mine and trying out the VX8300 instead. Overall its a great phone with great features. If you live in a city with good signal strength then I do not think you'll have much problem with this phone. I would suggest getting the larger battery though, especially if you are going to use this phones full features such as the bluetooth and music player.

The phone is great. I searched for quite some time for a phone and truthfully did not know whether I was going to make the jump to a smart phone because of my business, but with a nice laptop, I don't need to pay 60 extra bucks a month and everything else like size and confusion of the phone. The VX8550 has a superb design, good call quality and is overall just "slick". It does everything you need to do, great to goof around with, and it's carried by Verizon, Expensive service but you get what you pay for with there service. Highly reccomended.
i used to have a prepaid phone for the lasted time but i was getting so tired of it. so i decided to go with some kind of plan and verizon was the plan i went with. thank god i did because verizon is the only company that has the chocolate. as soon as i saw it i loved it!!! i was worried though because i heard so much bad things about the old chocolate :-\ but i went with it anyway haha and i love it! the navigation wheel is amazing it works soo well and makes it easy to go through all the phones awesome features. i dont know what every one is talking about the camera for i think it takes amazing pictures..such good quality! overall this phone is def worth buying..especiallly because its only 100 bucks!! after the mail in rebate thing..unless you buy it on-line ;-) hehe
I got this phone last week and just love it. I wanted a simple, useful and functional cell phone and I got more than that with the new chocolate. I love the voice quality, volume, and the speaker option on this phone. The battery life is average but does well. The stand-by time is also pretty good. You can call and answer a call without having to open the slider. I also like the lock option so the phone does not switch itself on inside my purse. Now for the frills- the phone looks great. I got the cherry color and cant help showing it off. The camera takes clear pictures and is hidden and protected behind the slider, which is great. This is not a camera so I didnt expect a 6 or 10 MP quality, and it didnt disappoint me. I love the outside metal scroll - it is pretty cool and easy to use. Overall, I would give it an "A" grade.
