Ok I messed around with this phone for a bit and decided within minutes to renew my contract with this phone. The apple iphone is a piece of junk in my opinion. Its all hyped up because it was the first of its kind released in the U.S. and its by Apple but I think Verizon (LG) has really hit hard with this phone. I have read tons of reviews and articles and this phone has been at the top of most ratings. Sure there will always be a thing or 2 that customers do not like on a phone but remember its a phone. Overall this thing is amazing. If people are worried about the touch screen not operating to their capabilities its simple... dont get a touch screen phone! For the price, qaulity, features and size this phone is a winner. If you are up on your contract and are looking for a good deal... go with this. I just renewed my contract, had the 1st Envy, I'm getting the The LG Dare (with a house charger, data cable, music disc, 8gb chip) for $100. I get to also keep my Envy for back up use if needed. $100 is after a $50 mail in rebate of course. If you Like verizon and the fact of a touch screen BUY THIS PHONE!!!
I picked up the Dare on July 4th. So far I've very happy with it. I've had only a few issues with the touch screen. I prefer to use a stylus but when I do use my finger it's not a major issue to tap the screen one or two extra times. The screen is very bright even in sunlight. I've loaded some music videos and tv shows encoded for my ipod and they have played flawlessly. Battery life is also very good. Web surfing is snappy. My major concern is I can't save a street address under my contacts. Unless I'm missing something somewhere. It paired with my jabra bt3030 headpiece and music streams fine. I moved to this phone from the samsung I-760. I consider this phone easier to use.
I posted a review a few days ago and am very pleased with this phone! I just wanted to let the anonymous "MUCH HAPPIER" know that I experienced the same problem with my phone that they had when they went to display settings and the phone would turn off and back on. I found that if you ever have this problem again go to your phone settings then hit security, you'll be asked for your 4 digit security code, enter it, then you will have a option called "Reset Default" and this will put the phone back to the original way it was when u got it. Any pictures music or anything else will stay the same, it just resets the icons and such like that. There is also a option to restore your phone but don't select that one as it says your phone would then have to be re-programed. Like I said I had this same problem and thought I was going to have to make a trip to verizon but after messing around with it I figured this out. Its great that verizon replaced your phone but in the future try this out if it happens again, I know this will work for you. You also will not loose any of your contacts by doing this. This Dare phone is the greatest phone I have ever used and have been with Verizon for a long time I hope that you get a chance to read this. To anyone else out there who is considering getting this phone you won't be a bit sorry that you did, it is AWESOME!
I ordered the Dare the day after it came out and have been very happy with it. I was afraid that I would actually like the Voyager better, but to my satisfaction I am so glad I went with the Dare! I've only had one problem with it so far and that is when ever I go into the Display Settings, the phone restarts. However, after calling Verizon I will be getting a replacement today. Other than that one little mishap I have been extremely happy with this product. The browser is okay, but by far not the best out there. The camera is superb, call quality great (for me at least), music player wonderful compared to the Chocolate's (lagging from Apple, but still wonderful since it's not an Apple product), on screen texting is good (you just need to get used to it), and I love how you can have tools placed on the home screen or keep it blank (that may be my favorite feature). Over all, this phone is great and definitely Verizon's best... so far. I have always been satisfied with LG phones, and this is another one that I am happy with.
I got this phone 5 days ago, and I love it.
I'll start with the flaws since there aren't many.
-Touch Screen: Unlike some touch phones, you have to push the screen. Just touching it won't fly.
-QWERTY Keyboard: I have large hands/fingers and sometimes hav difficulty texting (but 'm getting better and it shouldn't be a problem very soon)
Now the good parts.
-Everything: yes everything, even the flaws are great.
-While you do have to push the touch screen, it vibrates when you do and I really like that, idk why really but I guess it just helps to have a little feedback. Also since it's a push input instead of the iphone-like electric field disrupting input, you can use a stylus or anything else on the touch screen. This comes in handy when you use the writing function to write messages and such.
-The menu: The shortcut menu is entirely customizable. I love it. In addition to this you can drag icons onto the main screen.
-Calls: Clarity and reception are great, I even get service in the bathroom stalls at work :-).
-Messaging: The sideways, QWERTY keypad is great and responsive. They also have this really cool thing where you write stuff in this box and it recognizes letters/words. It's really cool although I'm not sure if it's faster than QWERTY. Also it helps to have a stylus to use this feature.
-Camera: 1.2 MP more than any other LG, Motorolla, Apple, etc. phone! The camera options are also really extensive.
-Music: I no longer use my ipod since I bought this phone. 'Nuff said.
-Video: So long as it's an mp4, the Dare will play it.
-Battery: I watched the entire season 1 of "The Office" and still had almost half my battery life.
-Speaker: The speaker is really loud. The ringtones are really loud. Music and Videos played through the speaker are *really* loud.
-Headphone Jack: most LG phones have the small headphone jack. This one has the regular sized one, which is awesome.
-Visual appeal: The phone itself it sleek and attractive. The phones graphics/visualizations are also very stylish.
All around I'd say this is a great phone. It has the 3G network which the current iphone doesn't even have. Also, if you buy from Verizon before July 31st, you get a free 8GB MicroSanDisk; you can't beat that.
I really like this phone. I didn't at first until I calibrated with a stylus. Now it is so much easier to use. I really can't add any more that what everyone else is saying. It 's all true!
I do have a question, though. I want to know how to convert my music to use as ringtones. Does anyone know how I ca do this? What type of file does LG/Verizon use for ringtones? I'd love some input.
Thanks!
J
I love this phone I've had it for almost a week and I am truely impressed. I've been waiting for this phone since February and I am glad I did. I love the on screen keyboard, the touch screen, the text to speak feature for messaging. Its pretty awesome. I love nokia phones and I wish this was Nokia made but I've been looking at LG products and I feel the same way about LG as I do about Nokia. Well done LG. I dont have any complaints at all about this phone. The battery life is great given that my samsung A990 died after 1 fifteen minute call. The samsung was great for taking pictures and it was over all a good phone but the battery life on it stinks. I was really look for a phone with more than 3 megapixel camera but the features of the Dare makes up for the megapixel. I am happy with my choice and Now that I am with Verizon I will always get LG or Nokia phones which ever comes out with the best phones.
For you technical computer geeks out there just remember a cell phone was created to make calls not to substitute as a computer if you want the functions of a computer get a damn laptop. this phone does its job so who the hell cares if it does not download attachments. Besides isnt that the function of a PDA so why not get a frigging PDA instead of complaining about that the dare does not download applications just get a PDA or one of those handheld labtops.
Peace out
The Dare is AWESOME
better than voyager. fast internet thanks to EVDO Rev. A. great camera. now i don't need to carry my digital camera. iono if it's just my phone but i hear this ticking sound when i raise the volume while talking. other than that, it's the best. way to go Verizon. now if they just fix the voyager.
This phone is great! It has tons of features. Can be customized so that all of the things you use most are only 2-3 touches to get to. Web browsing is fast. Camera takes great pics, even at the lowest pixel option. calls sound loud and clear. speaker is nice and loud. its also extremely resilient. My puppy got a hold of it and there are now impressions of 3 small teeth marks in the upper left corner right next to the back button but it doesn't effect the phones response!! I'm very impressed
I've owned the Dare for about a week now and I am overly impressed with all this device has to offer! Was trying to decide between this and the voyager and getting the Dare was the perfect choice. Its a all-in-one device for the ease of cell phone features as well as a great MP3 player and full HTML browsing that meets and surpasses any other including the I-phone. Not to mention the great capabilities of the 3.2 mega pixel camera as well as full motion video. This Camera even has full editing features of pictures you have taken. Wow!! Are you asking where you can get yours yet? Transfer of MP3's from your computer to this device work flawlessly! I have transfered several already! This Feature in the Tools menu has a USB mass storage option for easy drag and drop of any MP3 that is on your computer its as simple as that! I have also read reviews of people saying that the touch screen has sensitivity issues but they are untrue, once you learn how to "flip" the menu choices with the with the back of your index finger it works flawlessly! If your considering a full function cell phone or I might say a nice MP3 player or digital camera, look no further you have found it!
I debated buying the iphone but really enjoy the verizon network. I was browsing the verizon store and saw this phone. I tried it in the store and bought it but was still nervous about the keyboard. WOW! I am in love. Not only is the key board responsive, but when texting I can change to a full keyboard that is very responsive to my touch. I also LOVE the feature that allows you to just rotate your phone and it switches from portrait to landscape. The browser is quick. There is just a second or so lag time when I switch to email but nothing to complain about. I have owned several verizon phones and this is by far the best I have bought. A firend of mine owns the iphone and was absolutely amazed that verizon has this phone on the market that has a few more features that her iphone. This phone also comes with an 8G card free with the purchase of the phone. You can't beat the features and quality of this phone.
This phone is the absolute best phone I have ever owned! Everything on the Dare is phenomenal, from its call quality to its 3.2 megapixel camera. The touchscreen is very responsive and you can calibrate the touch accuracy with a stylus; which I have done, and has worked very well. Sensors on the front of the phone turn off the backlight when you are holding the phone up to your ear while making a call, and turn the backilght on again, when you have removed the phone from your ear.
At first, I thought I wanted the samsung glyde, but after trying this phone, i threw it out of my mind!
Some people have complained about the touch screen being unaccurate, and non responsive. THAT IS NOT TRUE!!! This phone is almost as sensitive as the iphone.
Internet is blazing fast, calls are crystal clear, pictures and videos are clear; I have no complaints of this phone!
In my opinion, its better than the iphone. I say that because i had owned the iphone for three weeks before this came out, and traded it for the Dare. The new iphone will be better than the old one, with cingulars new 3G network, but who wants Cingular? It drops calls all the time. even with full bars. Verizon has always had the best service/network and I'm glad I switched back. You dont even need one bar to make a phone call on the dare and not have a crystal clear connection.
BATTERY
The lithium ion battery that comes with this phone has an attitude like its never going to die! I left it on for 4 days straight, and still had 2 bars! with 380 hours of standby, you will rarely need to charge or turn this phone off!

DON'T CONSIDER ANY OTHER PHONE!! THROW AWAY YOUR OLD BEAT UP PHONE NOW AND DONT EVEN PUT THOUGHT INTO BUYING THE DARE! JUST BUY IT! DO YOU DARE???
Hey everyone, just a quick review..
I ordered the LG Dare on June 26th when it was released online, and received it on the 27th. The phone is very very light, and is a pleasure to have in my pocket, rather than my old heavy vx-9800 (the original en-v)
The navigation is my favorite thing on the phone. Now I can pull up new movies and it'll give me step by step navigation to the movie theater... literally I had the phone in my lap, and it told me when to make a left or a right.
So now I don't need a GPS system! saved myself $300...
The only thing I would say this phone needs, is a stylus.
Other than that it's a great phone.
To get this phone i happily took back my Glyde which i hated because of the horrible touch response on that phone.. but the Dare is a great phone the best i have ever had. The only problem I have had with it is how slow the keyboards switch from the 9 keys to the QWERTY board but doesnt bother me that much. i love this phone and all its features
Lets stop with these riduclus comparison to the i phone, voyager, or instint...The bottom line is that this is a great phone, best phone ever, at least that I have used. I just did an Worry free exchange from the lg 10000 (voyager) and i'm glad I did. The touch screen is responsive and very easy to use...THe web is perfect and the picture qulaity is in a class of its own. The keep it real the people we are talking about phones, again thats phone here so the number one function is CALL QUALITY and the Dare delivers that. Perfect 10 from me because in reality no one needshalf the features thats on their PHONE any how. Now thats the truth of theDare...........lol
Phone is not the best the touch feature is not the best on the text messaging. Sound quality is not the best either. Sometimes you have to push on the screen really hard and it still might not respond.
Very cool device! Interesting features, of which some are absolutely useless, that make the phone more interesting. The on-screen QWERTY keyboard is not very hard to get used to. Also the "learning curve" most people say is required takes like 5 minutes to learn! I love the phone so far. I compared it to a friend's LG Voyager, and he even liked the Dare more than this Voyager. Very lightweight device as well! I was surprised when I picked it up and felt how light it weighed. The iPhone has some true competition. If only the phone was as modifiable as the iPhone, then the iPhone would get owned...but whatever!
i love the design of the dare, so light and thin, not bulky like the voyager. the virtual QWERTY keyboard is very easy to get used to. The promotional price of $199.99 with the rebate is a great price, but $409 retail price? c'mon, thats a rip off, you mind as well get the iPhone if your gonna pay that much. But besides the price, this is probably the best verizon phone yet.
Only have had the Dare 3 days, but so far it's great. I like the solid feel and really enjoy the drag and drop option. Did however have problems with my 2gb sd. Having upgraded from the vx8300 I already had the 2gb external sd. LG indicated the vx8300 phone could only store 1gb, but the dare boasts 8gb. When I put the SD in the Dare, I still only saw 1GB no matter how many times I formatted it. I finally resorted to searching the web and found the answer. The dare doesn't format correctly. I put the mini sd back into the sd adapter, put it in my camera and formatted it there. Voila, the sd now holds 2GB's of data. Pretty strange. Not sure if a new SD would be the same, but hopefully not.
It is about time that I am in LOVE with a phone! I worked in the wireless industry for 6 years and have never used a phone that satisfied my love for features like this one!
The touch screen made me nervous, but it is surprisingly sensitive.
The music player is great quality.
I cannot believe the battery! I can't put it down and it still lasts forvever.
I have never bought a phone for its camera, so I wasn't disappointed by the quality of it. It has a much better camera than most phones, but I doubt I will use the feature much.
All in all- best phone in the US right now.
I bought this phone 4 days ago and I love it! I replaced a very old LG VX7000 which is about 4-5 years old. The design and features of this phone are great. Many people are comparing this phone with iPhone. I have never used an iPhone so I can not compare it with that. Compared with the touch screen phones Verizon offers, there is no comparison! Spend the extra $50 to get this one!
I was very surprised by how well I am actually able to type on the number pad and virtual keyboard. As a 6'2" man, I do not have the smallest hands so I was a little worried I would not be very accurate while typing. So far with a little patience I am doing pretty well. I am still faster using the virtual 9 key to text but I think that will change when I get used to the keyboard.
The only small disappointment that I have seen thus far is the camera. I guess I had a false hope that since it had a 3.1 MP camera that it would compare with a digital camera. I have tried a few times and still have yet to master this feature. Not that it is hard, but it still has that "camera phone" look. The flash is the brightest little light I have ever seen.
Verizon also gave me a 1 month free trial of their V Cast network. I am amazed by the speed of the videos. I was able to watch full episodes of possibly the best show ever, "The Office!" And steaming Youtube videos are pretty good quality too.
Overall I am completely happy to have replaced my old phone with this one.
Great phone, but the screen touch is not as sensitive as the ipod touch. Will be great with a wifi capability and a PDA funtionality.
I got my Dare yesterday, and I truly love all the features that LG built into the Dare. I've been a Verizon customer since 1993. Over the last 15 years I've had just about every make and brand of cell phones offered for sale by Verizon. Dare so far beats them all. So my fellow LG Dare users, I proclaim this...."Muhammad Ali may be the greatest, but the LG Dare is the latest."
This phone is absolutely perfect and has everything jammed packed into it for everything that I want, need, and for fun. The camera is amazing for the size of the phone and not many phones have a 3.2 megapixel camera. But that doesn't mean much, still takes great photos. Not top notch, but great for a phone. The touch screen is very responsive, and is nearly perfect. The menu layout is great, may seem iPhoneish. But this is Verizon not AT&T. The music player is my favourite out of all, being able to multitask and listen to music is awesome. 10 out of 10 from me, thats all I got.
I got this phone yesterday. I love it so much. the only thing i dont like is the battery does not last this long... it was fully charged at ten this morning and now only has two bars. but overall it is great!
