In my opinion, if you are like me and all you want is a basic phone that also has a QWERTY keyboard for sending texts, you really can't go wrong with the LG 840G. The phone is not at all expensive (comparatively), yet like everything else I own that is made by LG, it is a high quality product. Obviously, you get what you pay for, as far as the "bells and whistles" go, but regardless of the lack of many options that you would get with a more expensive version of LG's product line-up, you are still getting the benefit of LG's quality, as far as the physical "build" of the phone goes, and I am fairly hard on phones.
I have had mine for over a year. I do have an armored case on it, but that case does not cover the touch screen, and even after a year of carrying it around in the hip pocket of my jeans, there are no visible scratches or scuffs on the touchscreen. Also, even being carried in sweaty Jeans, and T-shirt pockets for over a year, as well as being used outdoors in rainstorms, and the temperature shock of going from a warm pocket, to sub-freezing conditions; no moisture damage has occurred, either behind the glass of the touchscreen, or anywhere else that I can see. It has been dropped several times over the last year+ (once on asphalt), and no damage has occurred to the case, or screen of the phone. Another thing that has surprised me is the battery-life. The original battery is still holding up well, and gives me an average of 5-7 days between charges (depending on frequency of use of course).
All in all, I much prefer flip-phones, with the original series of Motorola Razr's being my phone of choice. Even though it is available on my phone, I do not use, or care about internet connectivity on it. That is what my computer at home is for, as far as I'm concerned, and I spend enough time on the web as it is without having it "follow me around" on a phone as well. This phone is far tougher than I thought it would be, and although it doesn't seem to be as sensitive (as far as range from towers) as my beloved Razr's are, it does well enough that I am only without phone coverage when I am fairly deep within the woods. All in all, the only reason I bought it was because I was beginning to get too many text messages, and wanted a qwerty-pad. Although I have found a like-new Razr that I am getting ready to unlock and start using, I would recommend the LG 840G to anyone like myself who uses a phone like I do... in other words, simply talking to people, or sending/replying to text messages...
