HTC M8 - Less features than an S5, lower specs than a Z2 and less intuitive than and iPhone 5s yet I still Love it the most!

Phone owned for less than a year

I`ve been a long time HTC fan but have an extensive experience with all Galaxy devices from s2 to s5 (don`t like them : ( ) and many LG and Sony models. However the m8 trumps them all, not in specs or features but in practicality and does what a phone and media hub does best. Its fluid, snappy and always ready when you need it. You can launch the music app from the lockscreen and control media without unlocking as well as quick launch the camera, flashlight and calculator. The wake gestures work well and the phone is wonderfully contoured to sit comfortably in the hand. The buttons protrude nicely and have a crisp response, not mushy like some others. The speakers are a bliss, they are so loud and really practical if I need to show some friends or family a video clip or song. The camera is also really nice as in its versatile. The per pixel detail is great and quality hardly degrades in low light. The two tone flash also works pretty well, negating some of that nasty washout and poor white balance issues usually associated with flash, however low light is so good you rarely need to use it. Batterylife is also great. You can pretty much leave the device in powersaver mode with only conserve cpu checked which restricts cpu from 2.5ghz (I have the asian variant) to 1.1ghz. Since the soc is so fast anyway it rarely makes a difference except for ht occasional stutter stuttering fast scrolling or something, doesn`t affect game performance either and batterlife is two days easy, three not out of the question. So overall great device, so much faster than an s5 and much more practical than a Z2.

From an Experienced Owner

Phone owned for less than a year

My last phone was the iPhone 4s, with experience jailbreaking. Before that poor device, I owned the HTC EVO 4G, the world's first 4G phone (With experience rooting).

The HTC One M8 takes what was great on the EVO and makes it even better, adding in surround sound. The version I own is the Harman/Kardon Edition and is an AMAZING device for audiophiles and average consumers alike.

The benchmarks are wrong!(somehow mine got a much higher score =O)

Phone owned for less than 3 months

Fantastic phone full stop. I've had the iPhone 4S, 5S, Galaxy S4, S5 and even got to test the LG G3 for a short time. This phone is by far the top phone of 2014 IMO. Sense is just amazing and highly intuitive. The boomsound speakers are sensational. The build quality. well, i'm speechless. The camera- i can live with(although a bit of a let down). It does perform very well in low light though. Now, to the benchmarks, i benchmarked my M8 and it managed to get very different results to those of phone arena's test. i got :

AnTuTu- 45988( #1 benchmark, higher than the M8T, G3 , Xiaomi MI3W, S5 and Note 3)
Quadrant-25751
Vellamo Metal- 1558( below the +1, higher than the G3, S5 )

HTC One (M8) review and personal experience

Phone owned for less than a month

After the death of my Nexus 4, which I had a love-hate relationship with, I started looking at a new phone to get. At first, I was considering the Nexus 5, for frequent software updates and great value. But I was intrigued by the HTC One, and decided for the first time, to purchase a phone that was not in the nexus line of products. I was not disappointed. I had very high hopes for the phone, as I read nothing but positive reviews for it. There are a plethora of things that this phone does really really well in, and only one thing that, by comparison to the rest of the phone, is pretty subpar. And even then, it doesn't do it poorly. The design is the first thing anyone will notice about the phone, and it gives a fantastic first impression. The aluminium unibody design is beautiful, and scratches on the silver model will not be terrible visible. I especially love the curve to the body and the speaker grilles on the front. It gives it a very slick appearance that I could stare at for ages. The next thing anyone will notice is the display, and again, this phone does it incredibly well, with fantastic sharpness, colours, contrast, gamma, and response times. The next thing most people will notice is the performance and UI of the phone, where it does it better than pretty much any other smartphone I've used. Performance is nearly lag free, and the touch responsiveness of the screen is actually faster than any other smartphone, including the iPhone 5s. It runs games well, too, because of the Adreno 330. Sense is very clean looking, and Blinkfeed is actually quite useful. I actually prefer the look of HTC sense to stock android, which feels a bit unpolished in my opinion. Then, came the speakers, and again, HTC knocks it out of the park. Not only are they very balanced sounding, with great bass, mids, and treble, but they're loud, they face you, and they have a stereo effect. One of the last things people will notice is the battery life, which is, again, some of the best I've used in a smartphone. According to battery benchmarks, the HTC M8 has the better battery life than the LG G2 or G3, the former being the previous best of any smartphone. There is one fault, however, with this phone, and that's the camera, which is unfortunately, a main selling point. If you are primarily buying a phone to take pictures, don't even consider it. There are far superior options at a similar or lower price. But if you are coming from an older phone, you won't be disappointed. The picture quality itself isn't bad, but it tends to over or underexpose the image a lot, and pictures with a lot of different lighting (ie, shadows in a bright room) or dark and light objects, usually look poor. Sharpness, while good for a camera of its calbre, isn't up to par with other flagships. I was impressed for its MP count, but it still isn't great. Overall, the phone is an amazing experience to have, as long as you aren't looking to replace your DSLR with a phone.

Highly satisfied

Phone owned for less than 3 months

What a phone! I am an HTC lover in the first place, and they didn't fail to impress me with the M8. I was concerned having a phone with such a large screen for battery reasons but I have yet to hit below 35% after using it for a full day. I would say I am a moderate user.

The boom sound has been an adequate replacement for the Beats Audio I had in my previous HTC.

Overall, very much worth the money spent on this device. Build quality is impeccable and I am very happy with this device.

this phone is of a differnt age. AMAZING DEVICE.

Phone owned for less than a year

This phone is truly AMAZING. Supreme iPhone beating build quality. The speakers are AMAZING, it's almost like having a boombox with better sound quality with you constantly. The camera is SUPREME. You can take 3D pics. They aren't just pictures that move around and look 3D. The top depth percepter camera takes pictures around the object as the normal camera takes the normal pic. The camera is great! When you're talking about which takes better pics out of the iPhone 5S and HTC One M8. The iPhone 5S takes amazing pics. But when you're talking overall camera and feautures that are actually useful and which camera saturated better. The HTC wins! If you switch to the M8. You will NOT regret it. EVER. BlinkFeed is AMAZING AND USEFUL AND FUN TO HAVE TO PASS TIME! This phone leaves the competition in the dust. It kills the S5 which might be fast but it's build quality and speakers are just lackluster. The phone just feels SUPREME. I've had the phone now and I just can't get over how nice it is built. I keep taking it out the case just to look at how beautiful it is. The "weight" is not really a bad thing. It has some weight to it but it feels amazing and premium like that. I've had the Nexus 5, Moto X, iPhone 5, etc. And this phone is just too damn good. You will NEVER regret getting this device. Thai device can also take a huge fall and beating without cracking the screen or further damage.

Another Winner. Great Overall Experience.

Phone owned for less than a year

I love HTC phones and this phone is no exception. It improves greatly upon last year’s HTC flagship, the M7. I’ll touch on several key areas here.

SCREEN: Everything just pops out at you. Even in direct sunlight, everything is clear and bright. The main difference between the M8 and the M7 is the color reproduction on the M8 is better and more true-to-life. This is the best screen on the market right now, no question about it.

DESIGN/HARDWARE: Once again, HTC wins the best design category of any smartphone out there. When people see the phone, it turns heads. Put it in their hands and it confirms the premium look. It is made of metal unlike the others which heavily rely on plastic. You can feel confident holding this phone and walking around without a case as it has that “toughness” feel to it when holding it.

DUAL FRONT-FACING SPEAKERS: We have all been desensitized to the modern smartphones nowadays with their average mono speaker. Thankfully HTC saw this as another area where they could excel out, and they spared no expense. Your ears will thank you and you will realize all phones should have been made like this. Especially when you use ringtones/alerts that were specifically created for this phone, the sound is loud, immersive and expansive. Compared to the M7, the M8 loses the Beats audio engineering, but it actually sounds better than the M7. The new name is just BoomSound.

CAMERA: To me, the paramount function of phone cameras is the convenience/accessibility - it has to be able to capture what I want quickly and clearly, with decent enough quality to post online. Therefore, the 4MP size in the One's camera does not bother me at all. Who cares if the camera isn't THE BEST phone camera ever? Because it is not, but it is a GREAT low-light shooter, and to me that's more important than pixel count. The sensors in the camera are bigger than other phone cameras, therefore, it can capture a lot more light, which in laymen's terms it can give you better photos in more situations than other phone cameras can. Also, the touch spot focus is almost instantaneous - this camera is quick! What's really cool about the new camera is the duo camera functionality - each photo you snap is recorded from both cameras, so afterwards, you can re-focus the image. This is really cool and quite revolutionary for a phone camera. So in the real world, this means no more out-of-focus photos! You can now always re-focus your photos after the fact, so you will not have to regret missing out on a great memory because your photo was out of focus!
BATTERY: The Battery is 2600mah. Easily the smallest of the major smartphone brands. However, size is not everything when it comes to battery life. I am a moderate to heavy user and easily get through a whole day with about 20% left when I get home. The phone also has an extreme power saving mode that allows the battery to be stretched as far as possible when you just cant get access to a power outlet. Having

Phone to Admire

Phone owned for less than 3 months

My Experience with M8:

- Metallic Body not only easy on your eyes, but also feels great in your palm.
- BoomSound is loud, but at the same times easy on your ears. No distorted sounds.
- Gesture controls are pretty useful in day to day task, specially the finger up gesture
- HTC Sense TV combines multiple remote into one. Single remote works with both LED TV and Settop box.
- Everybody are fan of BlinkFeed in my office and they want the app on their phone too. BlinkFeed will bring the best of all from your fav. social networking sites and RSS feeds. Give some time to configure BlinkFeed properly and you won't regret.
- BlinkFeed is not Battery or data hogger.
- M8 battery With moderate use and 3G always ON takes you to full day.
- Activate Extreme Power Saver mode and the battery will refuse to die.
- Photos captured from UltraPixel Duo Camera is extremely good in quality.
- No match of UltraPixel when it comes to low light photography.
- Ufocus and 3D dimensional is what you'll do with every photo capture from the phone. A Perfect result.
- Use Season effects, create video and Amaze your friends by uploading it to Instgram or other sites.
- Don't forget to use Duo Capture when you're on date/trip with your dear one.
- You can also capture 360 degree photo using Pan 360 photos and if you're happy with the result not then trying Google Camera.

The best phone 2014. Love it!

Phone owned for less than a month

HTC One (M8) is great. Alumunium body, fast processor, sound quality, camera technology, great UI, and much more! Only 1 problem with HTC One (M8). It's camera resolution only 4 Megapixel. HTC should make this phone with 8 or 13 Megapixel WITH UltraPixel camera. UltraPixel is good. You can shoot at low-light conditions.

Yeah, I Think I Have Found My SoulM8 ;)

Phone owned for less than 3 months

Okay, I know that everyone have already raved about HTC One M8 design, but I just have to express my own opinion because when I finally get my hands on it I was literally stunned, I was speechless for a while, seriously, for me M8 is not just a beautiful smartphone but it's a metal artwork. and I'm not exaggerating, if you are a person that is into design as much as I am, there's a good chance that you'll agree with me. Its curves, its colors, its buttons and every single details just fall perfectly in your palm. So it's not only wonderful to look at but it's also a marvelous thing to touch.

Okay, enough about the design, if you are not the type of person that cares about 'looks' and just wanted to know about this phone performance, well, here's what I can say - M8 is fast and fluid, there's no such thing as 'lag', multitasking experience on this phone is very satisfying. it's a very reliable smartphone and that's just exactly what I want. Kudos for the 6th Sense!

Talking about the 6th Sense, Blinkfeed is getting better and better, it seems to load quicker and have smoother scrolling experience. Not only that I could mash-up all of my social media update in the front page it's also useful to help you learn new languages. Why? Because you could also mash-up news stories from other country such as France - since I'm currently learning French right now.

And when talking about the audio experience on this phone, I must say that, until now there is no other smartphone that has a better speaker than the HTC One M8! It's a fact. I've listened all flagships phone. No comparison at all. For this I'm willing to bet ;)

Now, about the camera, first, let me tell you that I'm an average user that use a smartphone to shoot those moments when I'm hanging out with my friends and family, mostly those moments happens during the night and M8 never failed to capture those low light moments. I also love to take a picture of my food (yes, I'm that kind of people, sorry --") and you know what? Creating a close up picture using M8 is awesome.. It's clean and crisp even in the low light condition! for example : https://twitter.com/LeYoniy/status/478777417075408896

And when we're at the good light condition, HTC One M8 also reproduce a great result - https://twitter.com/LeYoniy/status/480355652653432833

And one more note about HTC One M8 camera - Its 5MP front facing cam! GENIUS! Love it! There's a time where me and my friends can't find anyone to help us take our picture together, so we just do selfies and end up doing it multiple times because all of my friends love all the outcome photos of M8 front cam!

I guess in the end, all smartphone these days have already advance but for me, HTC One M8 is one of a kind, it's not only a gorgeous phone to look at but it is also a phone that have brought the best smartphone experience so far..

Yeah, I think I have found my SoulM8 ;)

No need to tell about its awesome compact design! But you MUST know it has the best battery life any other smartphone can offer! Once fully charged, my phone goes for 2 days with active social apps such as facebook, twitter, linkedin, pininterest etc, frequent calling, 1 to 1.5 hours of playing music twice in a day, 1 or 2 hours of playing games and gesture / motion based features.

The best looking phone and most flawless Android device around

Phone owned for less than 3 months

The M8 is my 1st Android since the Nexus One where simply there's nothing to fix, the devices works flawlessly, insanely speedy & virtually bugs free, I had habit to always root my Android to fix the things that bothered me, like applying screen-on gestures as the power button was always annoying or to boost the CPU in order to play games with no lag (unlike iPhones) but alas out of box HTC for the 1st time after 7 Android flagships fixed all of these issues, gaming? incredibly smooth if you disable Power Saver (there is even a faster hidden HPM mode) just try Asphalt 8 & you'll instantly be impressed by the ultra smooth speedy graphics but also the incredible loudness & clarity of those speakers, the UI flaws like water as I have never used a screen so responsive to the touch & then we have motion gestures which virtually eliminates any need for physical buttons. The camera enjoys a manual mode allowing you to control your shots, for example you can decouple focus from exposure & control shutter speed. So I find myself with a Dev Edition unit, unlocked bootloader out of box & no reason to root the OS!

While the new battery is only rated 300mah over the previous it can actually give you 2x the battery life of the M7, my M8 lasts me between 24 & 48 hours, I have also measured 8 hours of screen-on time using the phone purely for wifi browsing with auto screen brightness & standard power saver. The fooling numbers continue with the 5” SLCD screen: despite having lesser PPI than the 4.7” M7 it’s actually a significantly higher quality panel, the contrast, clarity & vibrancy of colors are a lot higher & the glass on top is almost completely transparent.

The camera is a little controversial but still improved over last year, mainly point & shoot exposure is fixed, color balance is perfected & the duo effects compensate for the lack of megapixels, the Ufocus feature is interesting, it captures over 5 levels of distance separation so you need to spend some time finding the sweet spot with the after focus, the 2.0um pixel captures a lot more detail in the shade & per pixel, which leads to excellent low light & indoor abilities. This precision does well in high quality upscaling like photoacute (best with 3rd party apps'RAW output)

The looks of the new M8 instantly outdates the already highly regarded M7 before it, place the phone side by side an iPhone & you'll be shocked at how thinner it is, the device is slender & elegant, made of one seamless piece of metal, it just screams quality especially the grey variant, while the device might sound big on paper it’s actually incredibly ergonomic thanks to the rounded curved edges all around.

Design, build quality, software, screen, sound & battery life are all areas this phone excels at, effortlessly, the much debated camera will surprise you pleasantly as well in fact it’s a unique camera, megapixels or not if you want an Android exceeding the iPhone’s quality, there is simply no other phone.

The Most Beautiful One

Phone owned for less than 3 months

HTC One (M8) is probably the most beautiful smartphone on the market today. It looks premium and luxe, and feels really great in the hand. The build quality is top notch, thanks to nearly all-metal construction. The hairline finish on the back significantly adds pleasure to the eyes. The subtly curved back improves the grip. M8 comes with a 5" 1080p display, a slight upgrade to the predecessor but retains the usually beautiful, vivid colors of S-LCD. M8 turns heads from some distance, and sparks wows-and-aaahs upon closer inspection.

Sound quality ranks M8 among the best (if not the best of the best) smartphones on the market today. Audio output through headset is satisfyingly crisp—listening to Norah Jones' Come Away with Me before sleep feels like a hypnotic experience. The front-firing BoomSound speakers are much improved compared to those on the previous models.

M8 comes with Duo camera—yes, two cameras on the back: one 4 MP ('ultrapixel', to be precise) and one to detect depth of field. The second camera enables users to create bokeh effect on some pictures after the shooting (there are some pictures of which the effect isn't applicable e.g those taken with macro mode). To put simply: refocusing. There are more 'fun' features e.g foregrounder, seasons, dimension plus, in-built filters which some people may find useful. It also comes with Smart Flash—two flashes of different colors that reproduce more accurate skin tone in low light shot. Imaging is a department where M8 is rich in features. Zoe is still here, and now with extra kicks. Video recording maxes out at 1080p (sorry, no 4K) with some nifty touches like slow motion. HTC put a 5 MP wide-angle lens front shooter. A perfect group selfie in the dancefloor or at the beach? Checked.

Sense 6 is much more polished, cleaner and sleeker than previous iteration. SenseTV and BlinkFeed got improvements here and there. You can now pick theme and font to personalize the look and feel of the interface. Sense 6 is an epitome of modern & graceful effort to Android custom UX. Sense 6 also introduces the Motion Launch—double taps to wake the screen, pressing volume button to launch camera from sleep, etc. I found it very useful at times because these gestures do minimize the contact between thumb finger and power key that is less strategically placed on top of the device.

Performance is fast as lightning and smooth as silk. Battery is decent, running nearly all day long with a single charge in the morning. There's also an Extreme Power-saving Mode that extends battery to days. A perfect solution to avid travellers who do not take many shots for Instagram.

Beautifully designed Quietly Addictive

Phone owned for less than a month

First and foremost what I like about the HTC One M8 is the strong bold metallic body and the way it shines makes me feel holding something very premium and ultimate in my hand. The first impression when having a feel of HTC ONE M8 is that it is very light weight and classic smartphone. It has curved edges which makes the smartphone look elegant and feels like a high end premium mobile in my hand.
I like the camera dual capture and selfie mode feature specially in low light conditions and the editing plus special seasons affect feature which are very artistic and creative.About the battery endurance I feel that battery comes with enough power even when using 3g internet for the day or playing games over the net,you still have enough power left before getting dried out. Also add on is HTC One M8 extreme power saver mode which extends the battery time and smartphone can last longer than u think.
Sense 6 is one of the best platform from HTC and certain features which impress me a lot are motion launch and accessing blinkfeed updates with a single click. While listening to songs on HTC M8 ,it is much better when using speaker mode as it is loud and very clear as M8 comes with dual speakers.
Sense TV feature is something very unique and impressive in HTC ONE M8 if you want to use your HTC phone as a remote.
The screen is very solid and no need of using a screen guard plus HTC M8 comes with a packed accessory cover which is added benefit but dot view case is recommended for best utility purpose. It is simply amazing when using with HTC One M8.
For design, looks and overall specifications, this phone certainly shares the center stage and can give strong competition to other premium flagship devices in the market right now and can be the strongest contender to most stylish sexy smartphone.
HTC ONE M8 smartphone is ultimate and I can feel the positive impact it makes with its amazing features everyday.
