I've had this phone for 10 months and it's held up very well so far. Hardware wise everything has held up. Display still looks great. Call quality could be better, but I've certainly had worse. Battery has been pretty bad since the beginning but on the brightside it hasn't gotten much worse!
I have 0 qualms with the phone except for the battery life (more on that later).
Amazing camera (front and rear). Duo works amazing for video chats. No issues with speed/lag/etc. I'm not a picky about audio, but I think the loudness and clarity is great for listening to music out loud or when you're on speaker phone. The Soli stuff is pretty useful when you want to do some of the few things that you are able to do with it (hopefully more will come down the road).
The battery is weird though. One day I may get a full day charge on it. A different day it may die in half the time. The usage time is relatively the same between both days, so I don't know what is causing it in the end. Not a deal breaker because I'm usually near a charger, but just something to be aware of. 100% agree that Google should have put in a bigger battery, but I think the Soli chip (for the air gestures) took up some space and forced everything else down into the battery's area.
I have been through the whole Pixel line. The 4xl far the best phone phone among them. Speed, performance, the Android feeling, the camera, the display all are super! I am just a mid-heavy user, and have no problems with the battery, it lasts all day, 5-6 SoT can be reached easily. With the latest discounts the best Android value phone! Just love it!
The Google Pixel 4 XL is a decent phone. I’ve been an Apple user for years and decided to pick this phone up upon its release date. I was impressed by the Android 10 software as well as the monthly updates. The cameras
Pixel lines are meant to showcase the best of what Google has to offer for the Android world. This phone shows what strong software and capable hardware can really do when put together correctly. From call screening, to Soli radar based gestures, this phone may sound like a gimmick machine. However, after using the Pixel 3 XL for over a year and upgrading to the 4 XL, I can confidently say I use every piece of software Google has implemented.
The phone is noticeably snappier than the previous Pixel lines. The 90hz screen prob has something to do with this and the 6GB of ram is definitely noticeable as there is less memory swapping when using a lot of apps and apps will stay stored in memory longer.
The speakers on the phone are great, cameras are top notch.
Project Soli feels pointless, it rarely works the way its supposed to. The only consistent function it has is when you go to answer the phone it gets quieter, however the waving over the radar functions rarely work (the snooze alarm feature).
update:
Recent android updates have improved the battery life greatly.
I would still recommend this phone over the Pixel 5. However between this and the Pixel 4a 5G would really be a toss up on your needs.
