The Nexus Phone with a Good Camera, Finally.

Phone owned for less than 3 months

It has everything that we enjoyed from Nexus Phone like its predecessors. It's a fast, snappy, clean, trustworthy, sleek, unobtrusive Android phone. And now with a good camera! It has decent camera hardware. 1.4um sized pixels on sensor is quite large, (Most of today's 13MP cameras on flagships have 1.12um pixel) F/2.4 aperture is not great but not bad either, and it has OIS module which makes the result even better. The potential of pure Android is really expanded with this camera on Nexus 5.

performance rated google experience

Phone owned for less than 3 months

I love this phone - a cheap high end mobile. Ofcourse, we have to sacrifice premium image quality but hey! its still a bang for the buck! Only problem i faced till date is the battery backup; it lasts less than 8hrs if you are a mid-power user - that seems quite good but it aint the same everyday, fluctuations!! :(

Best Android I've Had Thus Far

Phone owned for less than 3 months

I've had this a little over a month, and I love it. Definitely the best overall Android phone I've had thus far (better than the Samsung Galaxy S III, Motorola Atrix, HTC Desire). Performs well in pretty much every category. Blazingly fast, feature-packed, decent battery life, AND the latest stock Android straight from Google. If only it had had a removable/user-replaceable battery and expandable memory, then this would definitely be the best Android phone out there thus far. Beats all of its higher-priced competition out there by far. Highly recommended.

Best deal on the market

Phone owned for less than 3 months

As usual Nexus devices are top-hardware and performance for a low price, there is nowhere else that you can get such a deal. Obviously Google had to skip out somewhere on this thing, and the battery is the main loss here, in my experience it isn't terrible, but you won't be writing home about it. The camera may might not suit your needs if you take a lot of photos as well, it's not terrible, but you won't be thrilled. On the plus side you get stock android, and updates until summer of 2015, the device runs smooth and performs great, I can't honestly think of a situation where this thing lagged badly.

If you're looking for a top notch phone but you can only buy a mid-ranged one, this might be your best option, but if you have an upgrade or $600 to spend and you don't mind a lack of updates, look elsewhere. If you have the money, I would recommend the LG G2, but if you have less than $400 to spend, the Oppo R819 offers great battery life and mid-ranged specs in a package lighter than the iPhone 5S. The Moto X also gives nice performance for the cost, as well as a number of customizations from MotoMaker. If you don't even want to pay for the Nexus 5, you could look for a Nexus 4, at this point they will be insanely cheap and will offer similar performance, it just won't be getting updates for too much longer.

Great Price, Great Phone, and ... Unlocked

Phone owned for less than 3 months

Really glad I purchased this. It was either this or the Moto X but the Moto X was significantly more expensive off contract. Love the fact that this is unlocked and can operate on T-Mobile, AT&T, or Sprint. Battery could be better and the phone is so thin it would have been better to make the phone a little thicker and have a larger battery.

amazing for the price

Phone owned for less than 3 months

this phone is best for its price. an average phone like this would cost £400-500 easily. this is what makes nexus phones unique and attract everyone to them. I would boldly say that this phone is in the top 5 best phones. This is the genuine android phone with its full android experience

Google/LG Nexus 5

Phone owned for less than a month

The device is great. I recommend you to buy it in black, if you want to get it. The only disappiontment is the Camera. Many people complain about the battery, too, but I think its enough, if you dont use it on full bright all the time. I LOVE THE SOFT FINISHED BACK!!

FANTASTIC.................

Phone owned for less than a month

MetroPCS user here from NYC. This phone is amazing. The specs either match OR exceed a Galaxy S4 and cost me $125 less than an S4 from a Metro store. KitKat is special. The phone's functions are seamless; no lag; no hesitation. The UI is clean; no wasted bloatware!! I have the 32GB version, so for me, storage is not an issue regarding the lack of external cards. My only major issue is battery life, which can be said for most high end smartphones. Knowing a few tricks can save battery juice, though. My reception is good, not great. Metro LTE now uses TMobile's network, so I get some weak spots in some areas. That has nothing to do with the phone itself. EASILY the best phone on the market under $400!!!

The Pure Android Experience

Phone owned for less than a month

Google took Nexus to whole new level on the new Nexus 5, and one of the best things is that this time there is 32 GB Model, and finally Android running fast without any lags or Hiccups even after installing over 100 applications...

A superb device.Well built by LG.Better built than LG G2.
Kitkat is really awesome. The improvements over jellybean is really worthy.
Camera before update was horrible. After update it is good.
Battery life is not very good.its just ok. power users will suffer.
This is the 1st android phone i feel like not to install other launchers like apex or nova. Kitkat experience is flawless.

Everything is good

Phone owned for less than a month

This phone is amazing, IMO it's the best phone in the market right now
Nothing is less than "good"
Camera = 7/10 before 4.4.2, 9/10 after 4.4.2
Pretty impressed by the performance and this is the most important thing for me, VERY VERY FAST !!!
no issues with anything so far
Battery is good, enough for one day usage, still I wanted a better one

I think the Camera and the Battery are the only two things that most owners of the Nexus 5 are complaining about, but after 4.4.2 the Camera is so good, still the battery isn't that good even it's enough for me

Have come to expect this high quality from the Nexus line.

Phone owned for less than 3 months

Well, that time of year came again. Having previously owned the Nexus 4, I was very impressed with stock android, and the speed/reliability/customization it lends itself to over the competitions skins. The Nexus 5 is everything I loved about the Nexus 4, just a lot better. Faster processor, better GPU, much better screen, larger(a plus in my book), LTE, and a very high build quality. However, it also comes with the same shortcomings that plagued the Nexus 4; namely, the speaker, the camera, and the battery. While the camera is a noticeable improvement(and 4.4.1 only takes the improvement farther, basically removing it from the list of "shortcomings"), the speaker and battery are still not at flagship-beating levels. However, this device, for me, still beats all. Stock android, direct updates, a huge modding community, and top-notch specs under the hood? I would have bought this phone way before noticing the price is also half of the "competitions".

Moral of the story is, without factoring the price at all, it still wins me over. Count the price, and I start ignoring other manufacturers every year.

tl,dr: BUY IT

Nexus

Phone owned for less than 3 months

It is a Nexus. Not everyone will like it. Amazing display and HDR+ Camera mode. There are other phones in the market for "non-Nexus" lovers :) I love it. So fast, so smooth. And oh yes Running on 4.4.1 :P

Nexus 5 review

Phone owned for less than 3 months

Its an amazing phone.... the camera takes amazing photos just takes a while to focus, and that will be fixed soon, also the battery lasts through a day atleast which i s all that is important. For the money this phone cannot be beat. Even if compared to the high end phones like the gs4,htc one, and the 5s, this phone wins. Just neck in neck with the Note 3

Best phone for its price. And one of the best high end phones

Phone owned for less than a month

I had an iphone 4s before this. and it doesnt even compare. Everything about this phone is better. And its allot cheaper. Everything i want from a phone, this phone gives it to me and way more. I am a heavy gamer, and a heavy browser. And this phone wont lag even on high end games like modern combat or gangstar vegas. Not to mension 4.4 is lag free. I would of liked it to have removable storage but thats no problem i just got the 32 gig one. Dont even think about any other phone. Just get this.

Exceeded my original expectations. Impressed.

Phone owned for less than a month

This phone is sick. If you have done your research you know it packs a punch, its comparable to the highest quality and highest priced smart phones on the north American market but for about half the price at full retail...what?
Lets clear some things up: The speaker quality is good but not in a loud environment also it will take a little getting used to where to hold the phone in order not to muffle the speakers but it's really not bad. The camera: don't expect the world out of a digital camera that's... in your phone... it's very clear even when transferred to a higher quality resolution so shut up. The battery life is a lot better than I thought it would be, lasts me a full day and 4 hours into work the next day (voice calls, sms, mms, emailing, high end gaming [as far as a phone goes], online research, music, camera, making beats) its good.
The phone is thinner and lighter than I expected and fits comfortably in my hand. Its notably fast in every which way, I cant honestly think of any personal cons on this one. If your already thinking about it and your not some one with unrealistic expectations then this is the phone for you. Buy it. do it.

A High-End Jack of All Trades (Edited 12/7/13)

Phone owned for less than a month

Confidence. Were I to sum up the Nexus 5 in one word it would be this. This isn't a phone with a world beating camera, or stereo-speakers that will blow your eardrums in. It doesn't feature the latest fingerprint-scanning technology, or intuitive button placement. This isn't a phone that strives to be something it can't. Rather, this is a phone that does everything you'd expect from a modern smartphone. Nothing more, nothing less. It does this unapologetically, with the grace, understatement, and confidence of a device truly comfortable in its own skin.

If you're looking for evidence, look no further than skin-deep. If ever there were a generic-looking smartphone, this would be it. Its face is a clean sheet of glass, with no visual-flare, save for the circular speaker-hole at the top. The sides are equally-clean, sporting the power button, volume rocker, speaker, mini-USB port, headphone jack, and microphones. The rear features nothing more than the camera and LG/nexus branding. The material is entirely plastic, but it is the best feeling plastic I've ever felt. Neither glossy and slippery, nor hard and uninviting, the Nexus 5 features a sort of rubberized soft-touch coating that endeared me to it upon my very first touch.

This design may come off as "boring, cookie-cutter, and uninspired" to some, but in a day when manufacturers are differentiating themselves with all manner of adornment, this simple, solid, clean design becomes a trademark in and of itself.

The software seems to cue off of the hardware: while most manufacturers out there are gussying up Android with their own visuals and overlays, this one sticks to the basics. If the hardware is generic-looking, then so is the software. Android has come a LONG way. Whereas once it was visually unappealing and frustrating to use, the experience now is as visually appealing and simple as anything out there (and yes, that includes iOS). To put it in cheesy marketing lingo, "it just works."

I obviously haven't touched on the minutia of this device (that comes in the "ratings" section), but with this phone I don't feel that I even really need to. Everything about it works, and works well. While it has no clear-cut strength to set it apart, it has absolutely no clear-cut weaknesses either, which may be its clear-cut strength in itself. Again, if you're looking for a phone with a best-in-class camera, or the widest array of software tweaks imaginable, this isn't the phone for you. However, if you're looking for a phone that accomplishes any task you throw at it with poise and confidence, look no further: the Nexus 5 will have you covered.

If this phone isn't good enough for you on this price i suggest you get a Jitterbug because you may just be a little crazy.

Best bang for the buck but with drawbacks.

Phone owned for less than a month

Disclaimer: Despite the minor problems I have experienced with my Nexus 5, I am still incredibly satisfied with it and have no regrets for my purchase.

Update:
After almost a week of using the Nexus 5, I am a little disappointed with the call quality. The round speaker grill for phone calls is very small so it must be placed at the right position which is a little hard to maintain. Had there been a standard bar or line instead of a circle, it could have been much better. This is an issue with the build quality rather than the call quality.

The battery life is as expected at 2300 mAh but I was hoping that it would last a bit longer than it does. I am mostly using my phone for Facebook, camera, and browsing the web in between classes and I find myself connecting it to the charger at least twice a day (not to a full charge, however).

--------------------------

Coming from an iPhone to a pure Google experience phone, I expected that there would be major differences. I had been in the Android ecosystem many years before, back when it was still at its inception and trailing leagues behind the iPhone ecosystem, but a lot has changed since then. Now, fast forward a couple of years and Android is easily on par with, and rapidly exceeding, iOS.

I had been looking to immerse myself in the Android atmosphere for the past year while I have been using my iPhone 4S for the past 2 years. I had bought a Galaxy S4 when it was first released but it wasn't right for me. I did like TouchWiz's multi-window feature but the bloatware was too much for me.

I first became interested in a Nexus device when the Nexus 4 went on sale on the Play Store. $200 for an off-contract... an enticing price for a great phone. I would have purchased the Nexus 4 if I hadn't heard rumors that the Nexus 5 was imminent.

These past two months I became very active in the tech forums, trying to dig up any information on the new Nexus device. I followed every rumor date carefully and when it was finally released on Halloween, I completed my purchase within 3 minutes that it premiered on the Play Store. The delivery date was expected to arrive on Nov. 7, which it did, and so I have had my hands on the Nexus 5 for the past 3 days.

My first impression of the Nexus 5 was its hardware design. For a 5-inch smartphone, I was impressed with how light it felt compared to my 3.5-inch iPhone 4S. At 130g, the Nexus 5 weighs the same as a Galaxy S4 and yet it feels more premium with its rubberized rounded back plate, a welcome change from the edged glass plate on the iPhone. I have fully switched to my Nexus since then and I will most likely not be returning to my iPhone.
