Clearer and clearer signs point to ZTE Axon 9 launch at IFA Berlin
This is last year's Axon M, and odds are the Axon 9 will look nothing like it

ZTE’s device-dedicated Twitter account has been largely inactive over the past few months for fairly obvious reasons, but after promising to “resume” its “journey” back in mid-July, having learned “from the pain”, the company is today inviting its followers to the upcoming IFA exhibition.

There’s no explicit mention of a smartphone announcement or presentation between August 31 and September 5 in Berlin from the embattled telecom equipment manufacturer on social media. We’re merely told to expect “leading 5G innovations” on display at a trade show booth, which could mean theoretical high-speed network stuff.

But separately, it appears invitations have started going out to members of the local press for an August 30 event scheduled to kick off at 4 pm Berlin time. That’s 10 am Eastern, so clearly, ZTE wants the US to pay attention to this mysterious product launch as well.

Of course, the mystery is (intentionally) ruined by the inclusion of a large “9” in the company’s official invite imagery. ZTE Axon 9 and 9 Pro smartphones began making the rumor rounds way back in April, but even if plans were perhaps in place to release these earlier, the US government made that mission impossible.

Now that trouble is (mostly) behind ZTE, a long overdue Axon 7 sequel can probably see daylight, hoping people still trust the brand. Unfortunately, no one knows what the Axon 9 and/or 9 Pro might bring to the table, although something tells us the experimental foldable design of last year’s Axon M has been put on hold... at the very least.
