In a few months time, laptop aficionados will have one more reason to celebrate, as Lenovo is about to unleash some pretty powerful laptops for their new ThinkPad P series.
Up until now, Lenovo has released several 2025 ThinkPad models from the T and X series (ThinkPad T14, ThinkPad X13, for example) and what's notable about them is that they're built on AMD's Zen5 architecture. The previous generation, Zen4, was launched in 2022 and it brought significant performance improvements over its predecessors, higher clock speeds and more. Zen5 delivers further gains and architectural refinements, continuing AMD's focus on performance and efficiency.
However, all the 2025 ThinkPads launched so far shared a common trait – they launched with up to eight CPU cores.
Zen5 is more efficient than Zen4, but the performance improvements in the eight-core models are minimal or absent. This is partly because Zen5 uses a mix of large and small cores, whereas Zen4's eight-core CPUs feature only large cores. While 12-core Zen 5 chips like the Ryzen AI 9 365, HX 370, and HX 375 show impressive gains, the new AMD-powered ThinkPad laptops feel less exciting as a result.
This will probably change soon, since a product page leak from Lenovo Malaysia shines a light on an upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD.

The main highlight of this model, which shares its design with the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and Gen 6 AMD, is that it will come with AMD's new Strix Point Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 processor, featuring twelve cores. Aside from the new chip, its specs appear to match those of the T14 Gen 6 AMD.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD can support up to 96 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM – but only in the versions with AMD's Krackan Point chips, like the Ryzen AI 5 Pro 340 and Ryzen AI 7 Pro 350. This likely means that the Strix Point versions may have soldered (non-upgradable) memory, probably capped at 64 GB.
As for availability, the listing just says the P14s Gen 6 AMD will be released "soon". Since the T14 Gen 6 AMD isn't expected before May or June, the workstation version likely won't arrive any earlier.
