Sony Xperia XZ4 renders reveal massive no-notch screen, triple rear camera unit, and more surprises
Case in point, the Xperia XZ4 that looks pretty good in freshly leaked CAD-based renders... for a 2018 flagship. Of course, this 6.5-inch giant is expected to see daylight at the 2019 Mobile World Congress in February, snubbing both the notch trend and a hole-in-display current that may soon spread like wildfire.
That would make the Sony Xperia XZ4 significantly taller, albeit narrower, than Apple’s iPhone XS Max, which also sports a massive 6.5-inch display.
Meanwhile, even though the fingerprint scanner of Sony’s next big thing is not immediately visible in these ultra-high-quality renders, you shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Instead of embracing the future of biometric recognition with an in-screen fingerprint reader, Sony is most likely going back to a side-mounted sensor.
Unlike on the Xperia XZ1 and other past Sony high-enders, the fingerprint scanner appears to be positioned below the power button rather than being embedded inside it. This year’s Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium, and XZ3 all use rear-mounted sensors, but for some reason, the company is looking to make another design revision.
Obviously, it would have been hard to find an ideal place on the back of the Sony Xperia XZ4 with those three centered, vertically-aligned new cameras. That looks like a big upgrade over the single shooter of the Xperia XZ3, but without any details on resolution and actual imaging features, it’s too early to tell what kind of a real-world difference we’re dealing with here.
