As much as Samsung loves to mock Apple for its often pompous advertising campaigns, the basic blunders of its own social media managers are getting substantially more embarrassing.
Once again, prominent YouTuber Marques Brownlee of MKBHD fame has busted one of the company’s regional branches for using the iPhone Twitter app to promote the “majestic” ultra wide camera of the Galaxy A9.
Because the automatic “via Twitter for iPhone” stamp cannot be removed once a tweet has been posted, Samsung Mobile India unsurprisingly decided to delete the promotional message altogether in a belated and, frankly, useless damage control operation.
A screenshot of the December 12 blooper lives on thanks to Reddit and Brownlee, joining similar recent gaffes by the official Samsung Saudi and Samsung Mobile Nigeria Twitter accounts in the company’s advertising hall of shame.
This particular goof is made that much more embarrassing (and weirder) by Apple’s microscopic share in India’s smartphone market, where Samsung is ranked second, behind Xiaomi only, selling millions more units than its arch-rival quarter after quarter. At the same time, we have to point out the quad-camera Galaxy A9 (2018) is a shockingly bad device, so you can probably understand why a different phone was used to tweet this unconvincing (and since-removed) endorsement.
