OnePlus Buds Z announced: lower price, welcome changes, and one big compromise
OnePlus launched its first true wireless earphones, the Oneplus Buds, back in July, and it has now introduced a second pair. Named OnePlus Buds Z, the new hearables are more affordable than the company's first buds, despite the fact that they come with some significant improvements. They were announced alongside the company's new flagship phone, the OnePlus 8T.
Each bud features a 10mm dynamic driver, which will help them deliver deep bass definition. The drivers will work with Dolby Atmos' dynamic 3D stereo to enhance audio experiences.
The new earphones offer a total of 20 hours of playback time and 5 hours of continuous listening on a single charge. This is actually a step back when compared to the OnePlus Buds, which offered 30 hours of total playback time and 7 hours of continuous listening. Putting the new buds in the charging case for just 10 minutes should be enough for 3 hours of playback.
The Quick Switch feature will let you connect to two different devices and switch between them effortlessly with a double tap. They also support Quick Pair, which means your smartphone will ask you to connect as soon as the case opens. The hearables intelligently pause audio when you take them off.
A Steven Harrington special edition of the Buds Z will be sold exclusively through OnePlus.com and it will set you back $60.
Unlike the company's first TWS earbuds, the OnePlus Buds Z come with silicone ear tips, which means fit will no longer be an issue for most people. Like the earlier model, the new buds don't offer active noise cancellation, but they boast environmental noise cancellation. The in-ear design and ear tips should theoretically boost passive noise cancellation when compared to the Buds.

With an IP55 rating, the new buds get better water resistance than the older model, but this doesn't make them waterproof.
