MapQuest was living it high way before Google Maps hit it big, but the advent of Google Maps Navigation clearly outpaces the efforts put on by the long time company. The no cost associated with voice guided turn-by-turn navigation brought on my Google Maps Navigation is making MapQuest follow the same route – they've gone ahead and offered basic turn-by-turn voice guidance in the latest update for its free app. Unlike its competitor, MapQuest will only display 2D maps as opposed to the 3D ones seen on certain Android smartphones. There are some items worth noting in MapQuest app – like the use of double taps to zoom out and a new energy saving mode that basically dims the display. Even though it may not be as polished or in-depth as its major competitor, MapQuest easily provides a basic free solution to those who see the company as a huge force in its specific division.
