iPhone 7 (or just the new 2016 iPhones) to be released in mid-September

Starting with the iPhone 5 from 2012, Apple has been constantly releasing new iPhones in September (with the exception of the iPhone SE, but that was an atypical launch for the Cupertino company). With that in mind, it's no surprise that pretty much everyone is expecting the upcoming 2016 iPhone models - a 4.7-inch, and a 5.5-inch one - to be available sometime in September, too. And it looks like they will.

According to Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), who is usually very reliable when it comes to these things, the next generation iPhones will be launched in the week starting September 12. Since Apple loves to start selling iPhones on Fridays, we might be looking at a September 16 release date. Obviously, at the moment, we can't really confirm anything.

As you'll notice, Evan Blass isn't using the iPhone 7 name when mentioning the upcoming iPhones. That's because Apple may not want to use the name for this year's iPhones, instead going with something like iPhone 6x (where x could mean almost anything). It's said that the 2016 iPhone models won't be significantly different from the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, as major changes are seemingly saved for the 2017 iPhones, which should come with a completely overhauled design, and important new features.

Until we hear more about this, check out our iPhone 7 rumor review and our iPhone 7 Plus rumor review.
