The iPad Mini 5 & iPad (2019) may support Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard
Over three years after the iPad Mini series was last updated, Apple finally looks set to introduce a fifth-generation model sometime this year. And according to details shared today by developer Steve Troughton-Smith, the compact tablet may support a couple of Apple’s most popular accessories.

When digging through the latest iOS 12.2 beta build, Troughton-Smith found a number of details which suggest that the iPad Mini 5 will support the Apple Pencil and the company’s popular Smart Keyboard case. This support also appears to have been extended to the updated sixth-gen iPad which is set to feature a larger 10-inch display.

While on the topic of the display, in both cases slimmer bezels are to be expected, although they probably won’t be as thin as those seen on the iPad Pro series. However, according to the code found, this should allow Apple’s physical home button to be retained on both devices alongside Touch ID. Unfortunately, this means that neither tablet is expected to include Face ID.

Aside from these details, very little is known about Apple’s upcoming tablets at the moment. If leaks are to be believed, though, the new devices could be introduced by the end of March at the Cupertino-based company’s annual event. Here, they may also be joined by AirPower, updated AirPods, a video streaming service, and potentially even a 7th-gen iPod Touch.
