honor 5X and honor Band Z1 are US-bound, to be available later in January from online retailers
honor's 5X handset and the honor Band Z1 smartwatch have been official for some time now - the smartphone was unveiled in the end of October 2015 as a China-exclusive device, while the wearable was launched in India at the same time. Well, it was just announced that the fledgling handset maker will be bringing these two gadgets to a rather important new market in 2016 - the US one.
honor, which is a daughter company of Huawei, revealed that US-based consumers will be able to snatch the smartphone starting January 31 this year straight from the manufacturer's online store (hihonor.com) or Amazon. The handset will set you back $199.99 and we feel that this is a very alluring price for what the honor 5X has to offer. Its highlight is definitely the rear-positioned fingerprint scanner, which is a rare sight to behold in this price range.
As far as the rest of the device is considered, it's clear as day that it's mid-range to the bone: we have a 5.5-inch 1080p display up front, with a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 clocked at 1.5GHz right beneath it. It is aided by 2 gigs of RAM; users have 16GB of storage at their disposal, but a microSD card slot allows storage expansion. A 13MP snapper and a 5MP front-facing shooter complete the specs sheet. Oh, and there is a 3,000mAh battery to keep the lights on. All in all, a rather good package considering the price. You can read more about the honor 5X right here.
What about the wearable? The honor Band Z1 will also be available in late January 2016 from honor's online store for $79.99. Made of stainless teel, the gadget is compatible with both Android and iOS devices and promises up to 3 days of normal usage thanks to the embedded 70mAh juicer. It's worth noting that the gizmo features fast-charging, and you reportedly need to charge it for "10 minutes to gain a full day of battery life". Additionally, the Band Z1 has a 1.06-inch soft-lit POLED display. The wearable comes with a flurry of biometric and health-related features, like sleep tracking, step counting, and others. You can get the honor Band Z1 in black, white, and khaki.
