Apple Pencil 2 may support gestures on the iPad Pro 2018
Rumors of a new, redesigned iPad Pro model have been in full swing over the past months. Recently unearthed code in the iOS 12.1 beta corroborates previous information about an iPad Pro redesign with slim bezels and shines some light on the new Apple Pencil, that's reportedly going to launch alongside the tablet. The second-generation Apple Pencil will likely feature a refreshed design and, most importantly, support for gestures.

According to code in the iOS 12.1 beta uncovered by Guilherme Rambo of 9to5Mac, the "Apple Pencil 2, model B332, will support gestures. The user will be able to change stroke properties by sliding along the sides of the pencil."

It is not clear yet whether Apple Pencil 2 will have a button on its side, or if it will feature a pressure-sensitive body that would allow users to perform gestures. According to iOS developer Steve Troughton-Smith, it could be some sort of button (possibly solid-state) that users would have to hold down to perform various actions. A radial contextual menus in the vein of Samsung's S Pen is also not out of the question.

Rumors say the new iPad Pro will be announced at the upcoming Apple event on the 30th of October. That's also when Apple Pencil 2 is expected to be unveiled. The company's recent invitational teasers of the upcoming event, which featured unique reimaginings of the classic Apple logo from hundreds of artists, seems to indicate that something geared towards creatives is on the horizon. This could very well be the Apple Pencil 2, which is likely going to be shown off working in tandem with Adobe's full-fledged iPad version of Photoshop.
