Apple's new iPad Pro generation must wait - no announcement expected today
While it was definitely shocking to learn the final names of Apple’s three new iPhones, as well as all their storage configurations and previously unknown details about Apple Watch Series 4 sizes hours before the actual launch event, possibly the most surprising last-minute revelation is what’s not coming. At least not yet.
According to code builder and code breaker Steve Troughton-Smith over on Twitter, there’s “very clearly” no iPad Pro refresh scheduled for an announcement later today. That’s because there was not a single mention of a new iOS tablet anywhere to be found in the latest batch of files carelessly and prematurely leaked by none other than Apple.
It appears this event will be all about the iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and iPhone Xr, as well as a revised Apple Watch family and “some new Watch bands.” Not even the long-awaited AirPower wireless charging pad is guaranteed to see daylight in a few hours, although Apple might be treating accessories differently in their commercial release preparations.
Of course, it’s already been way too long since Cupertino last refreshed its iPad Pro lineup, which probably means a different announcement event will go down later this fall. Perhaps that drastic redesign, Touch ID replacement with Face ID technology, and bezel-reducing operation are proving trickier than anticipated. Or maybe Apple feels the oft-rumored two new iPad Pros simply deserve their own glamorous shindig. Either way, you now know exactly what to expect from the “Gather Round” event kicking off at 10 a.m. PDT today.
