Apple might bring eSIM-only iPhones to Europe with the iPhone 15 series
Last year Apple released the iPhone 14 series, and it was the first phone from the company to come without a SIM card tray, instead relying only on eSIM. This change affected only the US, but it is looking like the upcoming iPhone 15 series might introduce it to other parts of the world too.

This information comes from the French website MacGeneration, claiming to have a source that tells them France will be getting eSIM-only versions of the iPhone 15 lineup. This news is big not only for the French folks, though, as Apple tends to sell the same models across European countries, meaning others like Germany, Ireland, the UK, Spain, Portugal, etc., are scheduled to also start adopting iPhone without SIM card trays.

This is still just a rumor, however, since not every country with an Apple store has widely adopted the eSIM. Some carriers still don't offer eSIMs as an option, or at least not with all their plans. Needless to say, it would be a bit of a mess if Apple pushed for this adaptation this year. Nevertheless, the company is probably already taking steps to make this a reality and prep carriers for that day.

It could be that despite the trend so far, not every country gets this type of iPhone, but only those that are adequately prepared for them. Whatever the case, even though not everyone is ready for eSIM to become the standard, it is, without a doubt, the future.

That's because eSIM offers significant security benefits simply because it cannot be stolen without the phone itself. Another reason is that it frees up space by removing the need for a traditional SIM card slot, which takes up a lot especially given how packed everything is inside our phones. This new free space can then be used by manufacturers to place more useful/powerful hardware.

Even if Apple does not introduce eSIM-only iPhones to Europe this year, it will be a very likely future with the iPhone 16.
