ZTE's new Tempo X for Boost is the most affordable Nougat phone with removable battery

Following up on the affordable Tempo phone it released last year, the second largest non-contract smartphone supplier in the US - ZTE - is now launching the upgraded Tempo X. The screen has grown to 5 inches this time, from 4.5" in the Tempo, but the X is still a very manageable compact handset.

"Everything you need at a price you can afford" is ZTE's moto for the X, which made us look at the surprisingly low $79.99 price. Needless to say, you only get the basics at this tag - a quad-core chipset, 5 MP camera on the rear and 2 MP camera up front, a gig of RAM and 8 GB of storage - but the handset comes with the latest Android Nougat update, LTE connectivity, and is powered by a hearty for the specs 2200 mAh battery.

This makes the Tempo X a nice little package that will appeal to many as a basic smartphone, especially its combination with Boost Mobile's affordable connectivity options. If you make the switch to Boost now, for instance, you would get two lines of unlimited talk, text and 3 GB of full-speed LTE data for each line, and will pay just $50 a month for both. The promo will run until November 2, and those prices already include all taxes and fees. Any takers?
