Marketing smartphones is a tough business, especially when you're targeting certain demographics. ZTE is aiming for the youth market with its new Red Bull Mobile brand. With slogans such as "time for youth" and "Red Bull Mobile ZTE, youth positive energy!" the Chinese manufacturer is trying to attract the over achieving young executive in the U.S. (note the red, white and blue colors on the poster pictured below). ZTE is also trying to make its mark in the U.S. by hooking up with an up and coming NBA team.
ZTE has worked out a deal that makes it the official smartphone provider for the Houston Rockets. ZTE couldn't have picked a better team for its goals. With the addition of free-agent center Dwight Howard, Houston is currently 23 games over .500 and is positioning itself as one of the elite teams in the NBA.
The partnership with the Houston Rockets is a big deal for ZTE, which plans on announcing more partnerships in the states. More importantly, ZTE needs to introduce some phones for the new Red Bull Mobile line so that it can start getting the word out to build some excitement for the brand.
