Yahoo planning to kill off 6 apps this month
One of Marissa Mayer's main aims when taking over as CEO of Yahoo has been to bring focus to the company. That aim has led to a number of different actions from layoffs to killing off products and services that weren't deemed necessary. Now, Yahoo has announced 6 more apps that are on the chopping block this month.
Yahoo had said that its ultimate goal was to cut down its array of apps by 80%, meaning a drop from around 70 mobile apps to around 15 or so. This round of cuts is set to kill off Upcoming, Yahoo Deals, Yahoo Kids, Yahoo SMS Alerts, as well as feature phone apps Yahoo Mail, and Yahoo Messages. Each of these will be seeing its last day on April 30th.
Additionally, as of June 3, 2013, older versions of Yahoo Mail (including Yahoo Mail Classic) will no longer be available, and users will have to upgrade to the new Yahoo Mail.
