After invading Europe this week, Xiaomi will hopefully continue its march towards US shores, as its phones are some of the best value-for-money offerings there are currently, and recently its boss vouched to never cross the 5% profit threshold. The Mi Mix 2s, for instance, which has 82% screen-to-body ratio even without sporting a notch, comes with Snapdragon 845 processor, a ceramic body, and starts from 499 EUR/USD, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which the OnePlus 6 holds nothing against but the faster chipset, can be had for half that.
That is why it is mildly exciting when a new Xiaomi in the budget Redmi line is on the horizon, and the latest specs and images leak come to feed our curiosity about the next, Redmi 6 generation. A list of hardware details has appeared, courtesy of the Chinese certification agency, accompanied by some leaked pictures, and both indicate that this particular model might be the 6A, sitting lowest on the sixth-gen Redmi totem pole.
The handset will have a a 5.45" display, a bite-sized 147.46 x 71.49 x 8.3 mm body, and a 3000 mAh battery. In short, it may be the next version of the Redmi 5A, but a few leaked pictures suggest the 6A might carry the oh-so-trendy top bezel cutout, dubbed "the notch," love it or leave it. Another difference with the 5A is the dual camera on the back, instead of a single lens model, and there is also a finger scanner on the rear. If the Redmi 6A carries the same dual-camera config the current Note 5 Pro has, and comes in this compact package, it could be a budget winner, notch or not.
