Xiaomi Redmi 3 to sport the Snapdragon 616 SoC under the hood
Yesterday, we told you that the Xiaomi Redmi 3 would be unveiled on January 12th. While we passed along some information about the phone (for example, it is clad in metal) and revealed some of the specs, one thing that we didn't know at the time was the name of the chipset that will be powering the device. Today, an analyst by the name of Sun Changxu took to his Weibo account to post that name.
According to Sun, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 will feature the Snapdragon 616 chipset, carrying an octa-core 1.7GHz CPU and the Adreno 405 GPU. The analyst added that the price of the Redmi 3 will be higher than many expect.
For those who need their memory to be refreshed, the rest of the specs include a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280. 2GB of RAM is inside along with 16GB of expandable native storage. The 128GB capacity microSD slot is available for those requiring additional memory. A 13MP camera graces the back of the unit, while a 5MP camera adorns the front. A 4000mAh battery keeps the lights on, and Android 5.1.1 is pre-installed.

It should be interesting to see what Xiaomi will charge for this phone, especially in light of Sun Changxu's expectations of a high price. We will find out next Monday when Xiaomi makes this phone official.
