Xiaomi Black Shark 2 could soon launch internationally to take on Razer Phone 2
Xiaomi’s Black Shark was announced way back in April as an alternative to the original Razer Phone. Since then, a successor has been certified in China which suggests an updated version is coming, and now a global version of the company’s website is teasing an upcoming international release.
Right now, the website simply displays the words “Sharks Approaching” and “Unleashing Soon,” neither of which provide any concrete details about the release. Considering Razer has only just announced its latest smartphone, though, perhaps an international release for the Black Shark 2 could happen as early as next month in the hope of competing more directly. After all, both smartphones come equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and 8GB of RAM. However, Xiaomi’s offering should come with the advantage of 128GB of internal storage rather than 64GB.
Other aspects are similar, although the Razer Phone 2 brings a 120Hz display to the table alongside extremely loud stereo speakers and that unique Chroma lighting effect on the rear logo. The Black Shark 2, on the other hand, offers a rather distinct design that boasts a taller 18:9 display.
Ultimately, which one you would prefer is down to consumers preference. The Razer Phone 2 offers a slightly more premium experience at $799 whereas Xiaomi’s offering sticks to providing power and should arrive in a much cheaper package that costs just over $500.
