Windows Phone 7 could be launched October 11th with a huge event in New York City
Our favorite "multiple sources familiar with the matter" have confirmed for Pocket-lint that an October 11th date is already set for the Windows Phone 7 worldwide launch. The event, they claim, will be held in New York City, and will be streamed live worldwide.
A new mobile operating system from one of the biggest and most established names in IT will likely ripple the smartphone industry for a while, so it is not surprising that Microsoft is planning a huge announcement party. Moreover, it is likely to pour about $1 billion in development, marketing and distribution of WP7, and a good chunk of this money will undoubtedly be spared for unveiling announcements worldwide.
This coincides with a lot of rumors and semi-official confirmations that Windows Phone 7 devices will start showing up with carriers in October, first in Europe, then in North America. There is some stellar WP7 hardware rumored, and intriguing capabilities demoed, thus we are sure that the launch events around the new mobile OS and its handsets will keep us occupied for a long time.
