Windows Marketplace to open for submissions July 27th
We are beginning to get a timeline for Microsofts' online app store. Writing from Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans, the company's Senior Director for Mobile Platform Services Product Management, Todd Brix, said on The Windows Blog that the Windows Marketplace for Mobile will start accepting developers' submissions on July 27th from 29 supported countries. Brix goes on to add that the marketplace will launch this fall, along with Windows Mobile 6.5. A contest for developers that starts at launch will be announced later this month.
For those using Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1, Microsoft also announced that the online store will be accessible for devices using those OS starting at the end of the year. That means that 30 million devices could be browsing the online app store by the end of 2009.
Microsoft also announced a special category for business users, the Windows Marketplace Business Center, which will be a place in the Windows Marketplace where business users can download mobile business tools. Among the companies offering such business tools will be Ilium Software, Pyxis Software and Formotus.
