Wi-Fi calling capability coming to Sprint tri-band (Sprint Spark) Samsung Galaxy S4
Sprint customers with a Spark enabled Samsung Galaxy S4 device will have an over-the-air update pushed to them in the coming weeks that will add Wi-Fi calling functionality to their smartphone. The service is free, and will also bridge other features over Wi-Fi, such as messaging. Users get unlimited domestic calls and messages over Wi-Fi too.
The added feature will be welcomed by those that contend with coverage issues, a real possibility in some areas served by Sprint. The feature will work over any Wi-Fi connection, even at the office (assuming the IT folks allow such activity).
Once the update is installed, the set-up is as simple as going to your applications folder on the device, and selecting the Wi-Fi Calling app. Once activated, the rest of the set-up is automatic, and the app operates in the background.

The update started rolling out today. Customers should get their notifications soon. Sprint expects to expand Wi-Fi calling to more devices this year. Those with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Sprint should have seen a Wi-Fi calling update already.
