Text status returns in WhatsApp beta
You might recall that last month, on its eighth birthday,
WhatsApp announced the introduction of video status updates. This did not go down smoothly for WhatsApp subscribers, many of whom felt that the Facebook owned messaging app was merely copying Instagram and Snapchat. To prevent the torch and pitchfork crowd from making a raid on WhatsApp headquarters, the text status feature has made a triumphant return on the new version of the app, 2.17.95. This currently is available to beta users only.
Changing back to the previous text status requires a click on the overflow menu (the infamous three dots) in the upper right hand corner of the app. Once this has been achieved, click on Settings, then tap on your name. That will take you to the Profile tab from where you can type in your status or click on a pre-written one. The latter includes everyday possibilities such as Available, Busy, At School, At the Movies and more.
The update, while bringing back text status, does not eliminate the new video status option. It does move the location from where you add attachments to your messages (like pictures, video, PDF files and more) from the upper right-hand corner to an area next to the box where you type in your messages.
Remember, for now the update is limited to beta users.
