WhatsApp now supported by Apple's CarPlay

WhatsApp has just launched its newest update and the app now supports Apple's CarPlay. This way the app joins iMessages as the only messaging platforms available on CarPlay.

WhatsApp comes with an interface, similar to the one on the iPhone - the app's icon appears on the car dashboard, with a badge in the upper-right corner showing unread messages. From there on, you can open the app using your voice only with the 'Siri, open...' command. After entering the app, you can write a message by telling Siri who you want it addressed to, then dictate the message itself. After that she'll repeat it, and you'll have the option of sending it. Siri also tells you when you've received a notification or a message and she can read it out loud, so you can keep eyes on the road.

There's one huge drawback - the lack of option to access all your conversations from CarPlay directly, unlike iMessages in which that is possible.

CarPlay is a feature, created with the single goal of enabling you to control your iPhone safely while driving. It was initially released back in 2014, and has come a long way since then. The feature launched with audio app support, adding voice-over-IP and messaging app support since then. CarPlay is currently available as an option in many new car models, examples being the Ford Focus (2017), the Volkswagen Golf (2016) and the Chevrolet Camaro (2017).
