Keen observers of the Android ecosystem will have this one down cold by now: With every major Android release, Google goes for a name of a dessert. Not only that, but the names follow an alphabetical order, which explains recent releases like (J)elly Bean, (K)itKat, (L)ollipop, and most recently: (M)arshmallow. There's no doubt that at some point this year, we'll be talking about Android N. But what will the N stand for?
In keeping with traditions, we listed as many desserts as we could find information about,
and asked for your input. Instead of including branded confectionery (like Nutella, as many of you pointed out), we decided to steer clear and focus on sweets that won't require a massive licensing deal with a major chocolate producer like Ferrero. After all, out of 11 major named releases so far, only one (KitKat) was the result of such a deal, with two major updates having arrived since. In other words, there's no reason to believe that just because Android KitKat happened, Android Nutella will. That'd be rad, though.
In any case, the number one choice among readers was Android
Nougat, with the lion's share of votes (~62%), followed by Android
Napoleon (~15%) and Android
Nut roll (~11%). Android
Neenish tart (.16%) ended last. Here's the full split:
