Waze update to iOS app adds Facebook integration for events
With all of the recent news about a possible acquisition of Waze, it is time that the focus on the crowd-sourced navigation app returned to what it does best. Even though Facebook has pulled itself out of the running to buy Waze, the latter's iOS app was updated on Thursday to version 3.7 which includes integration with the social networking site.
With today's update, Facebook users can sign into the service and have the navigation list show events before they take place. Tap on an event on the list and you will see navigation displayed for it without having to type in the address. The feature also will show you which of your friends is traveling to the same event via a "friends bar". The data will even show you your friends' estimated time of arrival.
Besides the above, the update allows you to beep at your friends in real-time or offline, and pop-up alerts have been redesigned. From the main menu, you can check in with Foursquare and you can lock the map to a northern orientation. Those with a certain JVC in-dash car audio receiver can link to the app and the inbox can now be found in the main menu. As usual, there are a number of bug fixes and enhancements taken care of by the update. For the complete changelist, check out the sourcelink.
