Video shows test build of Tizen update heading to Samsung Galaxy Gear
Samsung might have thrown purchasers of the original Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch for a loop when the Tizen-driven Samsung Gear 2 and Samsung Gear 2 Neo were announced. Suddenly, owners of the Galaxy Gear had to be concerned that the manufacturer was not going to support the device. And with Sammy throwing cash at Gear developers, the Android driven watches seemed ready to play second fiddle to the newer timepieces.
Samsung plans on sending out an update that will turn the original Galaxy Gear into a Tizen powered wearable. No timeframe has been discussed, but the update will also carry some new features for the watch. For example, Sleep mode will track your sleeping habits, while Exercise mode monitors your workouts on a real-time basis. There will be a stand alone music player coming to the watch with the update, along with a feature that enables the owner to customize the double tap command that previously brought up Quick Controls. The latter has been carved out as a separate app.

After the update, Galaxy Gear users will be able to select the size of the font and choose from customizable wallpaper. In fact, all of the features on the Gear 2, except for the WatchON and the Heart Rate monitor, will be available to owners of the Samsung Galaxy Gear following the update.
