It was just three days ago when we reported that video calling on the mobile version of Skype is coming sometime in 2011 and now it seems that sometime means “very soon” as Skype released what seems to be a video calling campaign. The company is building up hype with the promise that “a beautiful surprise” is coming “very soon”.
The campaign goes under the “I wish I could share moments like these” slogan and features both cute and funny videos of moments shared on the go, somewhat similar to Apple's FaceTime ad campaign.
No details were available whether video calling will be limited to Apple's iOS only, as the initial information stated, or Android and other systems will join as well. Skype video chat over 3G and Wi-Fi is expected on the iPhone 4, the 3GS, the 3rd and 4th gen iPod touch as well as on Apple's iPad. However it is only the iPhone 4 and the latest iPod touch that come equipped with a front-facing camera needed for both parties to be able to participate fully in a video call. Stay tuned as more details will surely come out soon.
