Looking for a rugged Android, but the Galaxy S8 Active is out of reach for at least two reasons? Check out Vernee's new Active handset, which has learned to protect itself as a child on the mean streets, but has now grown to a 5.5" adult with an octa-core chipset, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, plus a whopping 4200 mAh battery. Given the configuration, and the 1080p display resolution,Vernee's claims of a "3-day" battery may certainly be achievable with light usage, and there is fast charging via the USB-C port, too.
'Wild and professional' is the Vernee Active's motto
The camera set is decidedly midrange at a 13 MP main shooter, and an 8 MP selfie-taker at the front. The device sports LTE connectivity with no less than 28 supported bands, so its dual SIM slots will certainly be able to accommodate cards from the likes of AT&T or T-Mobile, but, as usual, Verizon or Sprint users needn't apply.
What makes the Vernee Active worth its moniker, you ask? Well, the handset is IP68-certified as waterproof in up to five feet of water for up to 30 minutes, and it is dustproof as well. Granted, a lot of today's flagships are, but the Active is a midranger, and is drop-tested as well, aided by the Kevlar protection on the back, and improved corner defense that helps when the phone is plopped.
The only ho-hum part about the rugged handset is that it ships with Android 7.0 on board, instead of Oreo, but that's a feat that even the big guys have been guilty of lately. The current ordering campaign for the Vernee Active will land you an adventure buddy at $319.99, plus those who participate in the commentfest at the official Vernee site below, will enter for a chance to win the phone, plus $500 to put towards their next adrenaline rush of a trip.
