Verizon's HTC Merge is going on sale today, but only through third-party distribution
Well, the wait is finally over, and we really mean that it’s well beyond overdue, but Verizon’s HTC Merge is finally going on sale starting today – albeit, don’t go trotting into your local Verizon store expecting to see it there. Rather, you’ll need to peruse some of the third party distributors located in malls and elsewhere to see if they’re selling the much overdue handset.
Based on the leaked internal screenshot below, you’ll be surprised to find out that Big Red won’t be selling the handset through its retail store, but instead, it’s going to be available through big box retailers like Best Buy. It’s hard to say why it's happening this way, but we’d imagine that those third-party resellers are going to be happy nonetheless about the news.
Still, its later than normal release might prove to be too late for the device, especially when it’s already trying to compete in the same market being dominated by devices like the HTC ThunderBolt. Fortunately though, it’s still one of the few smartphones on Big Red’s lineup that’s branded as a world phone – so you can take it abroad and still use it.
