Verizon updates: HTC One (M8) gets its first; Samsung Galaxy S4 tipped for KitKat on May 2nd
Updates, updates. Who has got the updates? Verizon has the updates, including a rather hefty firmware update for the HTC One (M8) that has already rolled out. Firmware version 1.55.605.2 is no lightweight at 121.5MB, which means that your best bet is to be on a Wi-Fi connection while downloading and installing it. This update is a maintenance release that kills bugs dead. It also improves some issues with Bluetooth connectivity, and syncing with the Dot View case that have affected the phone. It also adds a new copy and paste feature to the gallery app, and adds mute and edit buttons for the Video Highlights feature.
The other news we have is about an update to Android 4.4 involving the Verizon branded Samsung Galaxy S4. No longer the toast of the town since the Samsung Galaxy S5 launched on April 11th, Samsung is obviously still going to support the phone. In fact, don't be surprised to find the device peeking out the storefront window of every pre-paid carrier in your town. This is the same strategy that kept the Samsung Galaxy S III alive for an extra year, after it should have been dead and buried.
The Verizon branded Samsung Galaxy S4 will be updated to Android 4.4 starting on May 2nd, according to a leaked internal document. Because the update will be sent out on a staggered basis, your Galaxy S4 might actually receive the OTA update a few days later. Besides the new Android features, the update will also fix bugs, bring performance enhancements, and add some new features courtesy of Samsung.
