U.K.'s EE now offers 'Double Speed' 4G LTE in a dozen markets
U.K. carrier EE has launched its 'Double Speed' service in 12 British cities on Thursday. Those living in the lucky dozen now have theoretical transfer speeds as high as 150Mbps. Of course, in the real world, things are a lot different and users are experiencing speeds in the range of 30 to 40Mbps. Some EE customers have achieved speeds of 40 to 50Mbps in London and Manchester, with peak speeds of 78-79Mbps recorded.
The cities now receiving 'Double Speed' LTE in Britain include Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Sheffield. It was back in April when the carrier originally announced that it would offer faster speeds in some cities.
Back in October, the carrier became the first to offer LTE service in the U.K.. The latest figures from EE show that about 4% of the operator's subscriber base has signed up for the faster service. That works out to about 1 million LTE subscribers for the carrier.
