Two mid range handsets from HTC, the Mega and the Click, for quarter 4
Not too long ago, we told you that HTC's CEO, Peter Chou, said that his company had a focus for the rest of the year. The goal is to have mid-range handsets, retailing in the $300 U.S. Dollar range, comprise 50% to 60% of shipments. No surprise then that DigiTimes is reporting about two HTC handsets, each ready for a 4th quarter launch. The HTC Mega is powered by Windows Mobile 6.5, features a 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen display, 3MP camera and GPS. The HTC Click is expected to have fairly similar specs except that it will be running on the Android OS. Considering Mr. Chou's desire to release devices with $300 U.S. Dollar price tags, you wouldn't be shocked to learn that these two are expected to retail for...$300 U.S. Dollars.
Both devices are expected to help the Taiwanese manufacturer in the October-December earnings period. Merrill Lynch analyst Laura Chen sees HTC increasing shipments by 19% in the 4th quarter, leading to an 11% gain in revenue for the three months.
